Allies in the East...
When German troops overran parts of the Soviet Union in 1942, various ethnic groups were offered the opportunity to serve in the German Army. Antipathy towards the Soviet regime and/or fear of a terrible fate as as POW caused many members of these ethnic groups to sign up for Hitler's Eastern Legions. Author Nigel Thomas has the story in this concise Osprey Elite Series book. The narrative identifies the various Soviet ethnic groups who formed units for the German Army. The author very briefly summarizes their service in uniform, including in occupied Europe. Distinguishing features of uniforms is a point of emphasis in the text, which includes period photographs and modern illustrations. Recommended as interesting coverage on an often overlooked aspect of the fighting on the Eastern Front of the Second World War.
