This has made a great starter formicarium. We connected our test tube containing our ants & Queen to the formicarium and after 2-3 weeks they migrated. We were fortunate enough to see them move home which made my sons week. The overall quality of construction is great and I believe it is great value for money.

The size of the formicarium is ideal for a starting colony of 20 or more workers. I have used these before and found that it works great for feeding as the ants will leave all their rubbish outside the nest. This is a common problem with test tubes that don't have an outworld, which can lead to mould. However, with this little nest and outworld, this problem is eliminated.To improve the nest, I recommend adding red clear acetate paper as the ants prefer it dark ants cannot see red. To do this, you will need to remove the screws holding the nest together and cover the nest with your chosen material before re-adding the screws.Before adding soil/sand to the outworld, I suggest placing a layer of stones at the bottom to prevent the ants from digging and making a nest at the bottom. While they will eventually use the nest when the outworld gets overpopulated or dries out, adding stones makes it easier and prevents live food from digging.However, there are some cons to this formicarium. The biggest issue is the predrilled holes on the side of the outworld. I found that the two formicariums I purchased had different size holes, which made my method of connecting tubing somewhat redundant for one of them. Additionally, it's not suitable for larger colonies or larger ants, but it's perfect for starting out with medium-sized ants

Ordered 3 of these nests there solid and come well equipped love them and recommend but few let downs i noticed... There are only 2 port holes in sides of out world, so basically getting them to shift from a test tube is nightmare cos colony has to go through outworld and discover all chambers and move everyone, when you can just have access to side chambers itself so i will try and see if i can make 1 myself with a drill and the outworld lid is small, i dont want take whole lid off but if you have big hands it can be nightmare. Everything said i definitely recommend these for newbie like me but just keep in mind 😁👍

Fantastic for a starter colony. Well built and even though I had the extras it was nice to have spare. Recommended, will proberly pick up another at some point

2 ants first went into the nest, they found where the hydration was I guess drunk from it. They then just stayed there, not moving just twitching sometimes. I thought I should leave it at first just to see. The next day a third ant went in and just like it’s two other sisters it just stood motionless twitching from time to time. After around 48 two of the three ants died, I think these were the first two. I then said that if that third ant died I would need to do something. Guess what - third day came and another dead ant, I disconnected it immediately and just left it. Luckily the queen hadn’t moved in.

Arrived very fast with amazing packaging, making sure that it will arrive in one peace. I think it's a great formicarium to start. Would recommend!!

A mis hormigas les va bien. Fue un poco complicado pasarlas desde el tubo pero ahora es suficiente para una buena temporada.

Regalato a mia figlia di 9 anni per Natale. Acquistate le formiche a parte anche qui su Amazon.Il formicaio è ottimo per una piccola colonia di piccole formiche comuni che di solito vengono scelti dai principianti. Molto comoda l'osservazione e facile la manutenzione. Ci siamo informati e la misura dovrebbe essere sufficiente finché la colonia non raggiunge intorno ai 200 formiche. Bellissimo sperimento.

J'en ai acheté 4 il y a moins d'un an (alors 20e/pièce).Avec le temps, le nid perd en qualité, les paroi de l'adc se décollent et suivant l'espèce d'insecte, il n'est pas rare de voir des champignons se dévellopper à l'intérieur du nid.Donc migration en urgence des colonies.Je ne recommande pas ce type de nid (surtout pour une fondation).Aussi, un déménagement de colonie est vraiment difficile sur ce type de nid (les trous de connexions sont vraiment mal placé et il faut faire preuve de beaucoup d'inventivité pour trouver LA bonne solution.Bref, un retour plutôt négatif.

Drei gekauft, bei einem fehlte der Deckel, heute und damit ausreichend schnell kam das fehlende Teil mitsamt einer kompletten Farm. Danke dafür!Die Farmen werden jetzt seid zwei Wochen genutzt für junge Lasius cf niger-Kolonieen, welche sich anscheinend pudelwohl fühlen und sich großartig vermehren. Das Wasserreservoir reicht für 1-2Tage ohne die Silikonstöpsel drin. Diese habe ich für eine bessere Durchführung raus gelassen.Verarbeitung ist top. Insbesondere bei Spalten und Passungen hatte ich Sorgen, aber alles sieht sehr, sehr gut verarbeitet aus.Nachtrag 04.04.2021:Zwei der drei Lasius cf niger Kolonien haben es in den Formicarien sehr gut durch den Winter geschafft und es sind weiterhin keine Probleme aufgetreten. Lediglich eine Ameise hat es geschafft durch die kleinen Gitter, welche die Verbindung zur Watte darstellen zu kommen. Sonst keinerlei Probleme mit dem Produkt entdeckt. Das die Ameise dort durchgekommen ist hat sich nicht mehr wiederholt und dürfte an einem zu trockenen Wattesxhwämmchen gelegen haben.Top Produkt für den Preis.... auch wenn die Pinzette Müll ist ;)Nachtrag nach mehr als 6 Monaten Nutzungsdauer:- Unbedingt beachten, dass kleinere Ameisenarten durch die Gitterchen kommen, wenn die Watte ausgetrocknet ist!- Mit der Zeit verdrecken die winzigen vertikalen Spalten zwischen den einzelnen Plexiglasscheiben- Für kleine Kolonien geeignet, nicht für eine einzelne GynaWeiterhin ein top Formicarium, das mich immer noch überzeugt!
