Excellent book!!
This is a great and fun read! I'm 66 years old, or will be soon. Lived in Maine all my live except my Army time. Been in the Maine woods also most of my life. Very well written. The way the young men described the Maine woods is well put and I feel the words they wrote AND picture the places they wrote about. It's been a while since I read an outdoor/hunting book like this. Really enjoy it. Great job!

Best big woods hunting book I've read
Most literature today associated with whitetail deer hunting is focused on the latest fad, trend, etc; all with an end goal of "smoking" a buck with the most inches of bone on top of its head possible. If facepaint and carbon lined underwear isn't what gets you going, and if the adventure of the hunt and the people you hunt with are significant parts of the success of your hunt, you will love this book. The Russell bros accurately and vividly capture the experience associated with hunting camp in the big woods of the northeast. Their writing style and attention to detail had me feeling like I was right there with them stoking the fire at camp, tracking bucks over mountains, tugging on a drag rope, and congratulating a family member on the buck they connected with.

Great memoir about hunting with family in Maine
Enjoyable book about growing up in a hunting family. This reminded me of my youth and the experiences that made me the hunter and father I am today. The authors put their memories from the field into clear stories that include the physical details but also the thoughts and feelings that come along with those experiences. As time passes, deer camp changes, we’re a dying breed trying to hold onto the good old days while building new experiences for our future generations.

A book that is hard to put down!!
Being from the Northeast and having hunted NH, VT, and a lot in the big Maine woods when I as younger it brings me back when we all hoped for snow to track the "big ones" in the vast mountains. The Russell brothers make you feel like you are there with them along for the hunt like I did for years.....I just wasn't as good as they are!!! I hope they come out with a "Part II"

Nice stories
Great stories, albeit some spelling and grammatical errors. Could have used minor editing.

North Woods Hunting Stories at their finest
The Russell brothers have put together a collection of Maine deer hunting tales that will have you smelling the wet wool and hearing the pop of the wood stove. Told with a refreshing honesty and a reverence for a camp, a crew, and a chase that are unmatched. These stories stirred up my own north country memories, and has me itching for opening morning.
