Mini Two Axis Rotary. Ideal for K40/D40 Co2 Laser Engraving Machine

I never expect a product of poor quality from Light Object. They haven't disappointed me. First of all this is a heavy device weighing approximately 10 pounds. That is very important. When engraving custom ink pens you DO NOT want the engraver to move as the laser gantry moves. Combining motion of Y, X, and now a Z axis stability and timing of the target material must be perfect.The 2 silicone covered rotating rods supporting the target item are well made. They are very sturdy. They appear to be approximately 8 inches in length and 1 inch diameter. Though I have not taken precise measurements. These 2 rotating rods are driven my a stepper motor affixed with a drive belt. An excellent feature is the adjustability of the gap between the revolving rods. This would permit placement of a larger target object. However, you must consider the height restrictions of a K40 co2 laser. The clearance between the laser head on the gantry are limited significantly. This Z axis rotary is approximately 2 inches in height. With he rotary device on the very bottom of the laser compartment with the removal of the OEM clamping floor/bed removed affords approximately 4 inches. That essentially assumes you have the capacity to use a round/cylindrical target within the approximate 300mm cutting range of the Z axis. Not great space, but most adequent, very much so, for resting a custom ink pen that has been produced on the lathe. Furthermore, small brass bell handles, certain duck calls, pepper grinders, seam rupees, bottle cap openers with the metal opener affixed and endless other small items with have adequate height adjustment. One would need an adjustable Z axis table to adjust so to have the customary focal lenght of 50.2mm. It is always possible the user could remove the bottom of the k40 laser. The as long as you can attain accurate focal length you theoretically could engrave and target item not to heavy that could fit between the two axis rods and not exceed the Y axis 200mm and/or Z axis of 30mm dimensions. That might be a glass, champagne bottle, or similar items that may be engraved by a Co2 laser.Bottom line is I would clearly recommend the Z axis rotary. It's best application would be in conjunction with a motorized height adjustable Z axis table from Light Object also. They are available in various sizes suitable to your laser bed dimension. One last item. I would highly recommend using a quick connect between the stepper motor and stepper driver so that you may easily remove or place with easy wire connections.Hope my review helped.

Not a piece of paper in any language for direction or guidence

This is a very well-made solid device. It is marketed as a DIY and I feel like the documentation could be a lot better. Docs do not come with the unit. It is very expensive for what it is, but I have to admit the quality of materials is good. I bought it for a K40 and was hoping it was going to be low profile enough to do small wine glasses. Unfortunately, I will need to cut the bottom of the machine out to use it for this as there is just not enough clearance on the K40 for much more than very small things. I won't blame that on this rotary because I just have a limited budget machine, however I want to point that out for other K40 owners. I am also upgrading to a Cohesion 3d board to power this. I have not been able to use it yet, but based on the quality of build, once I make a few modifications and upgrades I will be happy with the unit. I just wish there was a way to lower the items you are engraving a bit more like some of the others on the market. Price point may be good for a higher end machine, but I'll admit my choice for a K40 it's not the best match price wise or functionality unless you heavily modify the machine which I plan to do.
