Perfume Engineering: Design, Performance and Classification
R**R
An academic primer for perfume engineering
The key to this book is to realize what you are actually reading. This is a very technical treatise written for an academic audience. This is not designed for, nor well suited for the hobbyist perfume maker. The book is divided into four parts. The initial part describes and provides the provenance for the models that describe scents in the remainder of the book. The references lists are worth their weight in gold. The book makes some great points in terms of how perfumes are carried into the air, how scents vary in terms of both lasting power and pungency. In the end though, our understanding of the workings of our sense of smell fall far behind our understanding of our other senses. All in all, this is a great book for getting someone on the path to understanding perfume engineering.
