Smooth on the outside. Rough on the inside.
Love these but the inner walls are somewhat abrasive. They have a tendency to erode nylon thread if you try to use them with that. Have to make sure they don't have much range of motion to avoid erosion of any thread you mount them on, and therefore accidental breaks.
