Best sander I've ever owned
Expensive, and I'm not disappointed. The sander is quiet, smooth, has very low vibration. And it's very light and easy to maneuver. Beefy powercord with solid attachment, should be a bit longer. The case is fairly sturdy and large enough to store other sanding papers, blocks, pads, etc. i've used it so far on automotive projects (dry scuffing and buffing w/kovax sheets).

Best ROS money can buy
If you’re a woodworker and you can only splurge on one premium tool, let it be this. Sanding is the absolute worst but this sander makes it a breeze. This sander puts the Festool Rotex to shame… no more swirl marks. If you think you have the best with a Festool Rotex, you’re wrong… the Mirka DEROS is the pinnacle of powered sanders.

I would marry this tool if it was legal in OR
I waited years before buying a pro sander and I now wish I hadn’t. It was between this, 3M, or Festool. I am glad I chose this one. I hook it up to my shop vac with a bag filter and that is good enough for dust free sanding. I love this tool. I want to marry it.

Good but expensive
This is a very expensive sander. For the cost you could buy at least 3 Bosch ROS65VC-6 sanders, a very nice sander which we also have in the shop. Is the Mirka worth the money...probably, but time will tell. First off, the Mirka Deros is a very light but powerful sander, it is easily used on a vertical surface with one hand. It does not come with a dust bag or collector, it is designed to be connected to a vacuum. The 1" OD tube will accept the same rubber adapter that will fit the Bosch, or screw into 1" ID hose, or you can buy a hose from Mirka. With a vacuum connected dust extraction with standard 6 hole abrasives is very good, with Abranet abrasives it's outstanding. The paddle switch has 2 modes you can toggle between, on-off, and variable speed. You can set the maximum speed of the sander from 4000 rpm to 10,000 rpm in 1,000 rpm steps. In variable speed mode the speed varies between 4,000 rpm, and whichever of the other 5 speed steps you currently have set as the maximum speed. It does not vary up from 0 rpm. The Mirka does vibrate more than the Bosch, but it is a lighter sander with a bigger orbit, so that's not too surprising. There are some screws and nuts included that you can use to fine tune the counterweight which will help depending on what weight you add to the pad with pad protectors and interface pads under your abrasive. Mirka does not offer different hard and soft pads for contoured surfaces for the Deros, instead you place a softer "interface pad" between the hard sander pad and your abrasive. Mirka sells a lot of different air powered sanders, with a huge number of replacement pads and accessories available. Unfortunately only a couple of the accessories will work with the specific hole pattern needed for the Deros' dust extraction system, and the Finnish part numbers in the Deros manual are not the same as the part numbers used in the USA. Plan on at least one call to Deros customer service and having to special order the items from a local distributor.
