Path of Night (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Novel 3)

Like a hidden episode of CAOS
Pretty good. If you read the other two you’ll probably be reading this one. It’s a lot like getting a bonus episode of CAOS in book form, or like the storyline was a pitch for an episode that didn’t get selected so they wrote it out as a book instead.Important note: You have to watch the show in order to understand the book.

Torn up edges and used
The books came with bad quality. Every edge is torn up and scuffed and the books is bent and looks used. At least this one wasnt ripped like the other one I received.

deeper character insights make this a great companion to the Netflix show
PATH OF NIGHT is another great installment of the books based on the Netflix show, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. This book takes place in between Parts 2 and 3 of the show and follows the main characters through several points-of-view. Sabrina and her friends, Roz, Theo, and Harvey, are trying to find a way to save Nick, who is trapped in the underworld. Ambrose is traveling with Prudence to help her find her father, who has taken her brother and sister. Hilda and Zelda are managing to control a house of witches and warlocks who were displaced when the Academy was destroyed. What I loved: The books are heavily introspective and delve into each character in a way that makes them more whole, flawed, and lovely. I particularly appreciated the insight into Nick in this book, and the beautiful thoughts of Nick, as well as Ambrose, Theo, and the other key characters. There is something really special about meeting these characters in a book, and Brennan really takes us deeper into their psyche and thought processes in a way that enhances the characters we know on the surface from the show. This book focuses a lot on love, its necessity and its complexity. A lot of characters are driven by love, even if they don't want to be, and their other thoughts are in conflict because of it. There is the love of friends, the love between former-lovers-now-friends, between family, and between the families that people make. All of these are complex, beautiful, and so genuine in the book. There is also a nice touch of adventure, with the quest(s) that the "Fright Club" (e.g. Sabrina, Roz, Harvey, and Theo) go on with the Lady of the Lake to find the tools they need to rescue Nick. I also really appreciate the touches of humor throughout, as there are subtle touches of comedy among the macabre. There are also some really insightful/thought-provoking moments throughout as well. A particular favorite of mine is the side conversation about the inherent misogyny of the Phoenix in the X-Men movies, with how powerful women need to be subdued/destroyed.Final verdict: PATH OF NIGHT is an excellent companion book to the Netflix show that gives us deeper characterizations and new insights into the characters we love. Highly recommend for fans of the show or for fans of thought-provoking YA fantasy. Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

book review
Disclaimer: I received a finished copy of this book from the author. Thanks! All opinions are my own.Book: Sabrina: Path of NightAuthor: Sarah Rees BrennanBook Series: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Book 3Rating: 5/5Diversity: Theo is a trans man and Roz is a Black woman. Gay, bi, and pansexual characters are also presentRecommended For...: Sabrina the Teenage Witch fansPublication Date: May 5, 2020Genre: YA FantasyRecommended Age: 16+ (language, violence, demons, gore, romance, sexual content, possession)Publisher: Scholastic Inc.Pages: 320Synopsis: It's not easy being half-mortal, half-witch. At least, not for Sabrina Spellman. She just discovered that her dad is Satan... and that it's her destiny to rule Hell.As usual, Sabrina's got other plans for her future. She's figured out a way to trap her father... but he's caged in the body of her boyfriend, Nick Scratch. Now the love of her life is stuck in Hell... with Satan stuck inside him.Sabrina knows there's a way to get Nick back while also keeping dear old dad out of commission. She just has to figure out what it is. Unfortunately, her loyal cousin Ambrose is unavailable because he's off hunting Father Blackwood, the evil former head of the Church of Night.Fortunately, Sabrina's still got her mortal friends, Roz, Harvey, and Theo. So when her aunt Zelda, now the church's high priestess, mentions an ancient quest that might help open the gates of Hell, Sabrina and her friends are all in. But Zelda failed to mention that the quest has some perils of its own...Review: I really loved this book! I have loved all of Sarah’s books dealing with the famous TV series, but this one was really impactful for me. The book went into detail of each character and allowed for the reader to see what the motions for the characters were, as well as giving them extra adventures to go on. I really loved Theo’s portrayal and arc, as well as the more in-depth look at Roz and Harvey’s relationship. The only issue I had with the book is that it’s a little disconnected and the pacing is a bit choppy for the beginning of the book. This book is also better read right after Season 2 of the show.Verdict: Highly recommend if you’re a Sabrina fan like me!

Path of Night
Path of night is a Chilling adventures of Sabrian storie by Sarah Rees Brennan and is set somewhere between part 2 and 3.I really enjoyed this one. The book really complete the show. While Sabrina is looking for a way to get Nick out of hell and still dealing that she's the Devil's daughter, Prudence and Ambrose are out of Greendale looking for Father Blackwood. Love to have more Pov from Harvey, Theo and Roz and the little Riverdale reference somewhere in the book.Really looking foward for part 4 of the Netflix show and more books in this serie.

The 3rd of the „Sabrina“ companion novels again perfectly fits the tv series
Note: reading such a novel without any knowledge of the series it complements is probably possible, but I don’t advise it. You should at least have rudimentary knowledge of the series and since the plot covers events between seasons two and three, this is where you should read it.ReviewThe book again perfectly hits the tone and the atmosphere of the tv series. This time, Nick is in hell, his body the cage for Lucifer; Ambrose and Prudence are on the road searching for Father Blackwood in pursuit of revenge and Sabrina and her three mortal friends are on a quest to get the means to break Nick out of hell. And all three story threads are wonderful to read - I was actually never sorry when the POVs changed, because I was equally interested in all characters and their adventures.Although I have to admit that Nick’s part was breaking my heart at times, because he is really suffering and getting his sad backstory made my heart go out even more to him. But it was also really cool to get a better understanding of his character and his motivations.Ambrose and Prudence are the two complicated characters who stand in their respective ways to become a couple and they are cute in their bickering. And the best part again goes to the mortals - and Sabrina of course, because their quest is hard on them and forces each of them to admit their own thoughts and feelings to themselves and sometimes others. And Theo surprised me as the hidden hero... oh and Aunt Z has the most hilarious moments!Again the atmosphere plays a huge part, it’s the Perfect backdrop for the plot. If you like the series, the book is for you.
