I learned about self-watering systems from The Swedish Plantguys on YouTube. Their concepts around using non-soil based systems makes so much sense that I decided to convert several of my plants to Lechuza self-watering pots. The Orchidae system comes with the potting medium. It is not soil but a planting substrate similar to what is described in the videos. It is winter here so I had to re-pot my orchid inside. Note: I know I shouldn't have repotted a blooming orchid but the blooms last so long that it could be months before I could do this. No patience - I may pay for that!After rinsing the substrate in a sieve outside to remove the dust, I worked in my kitchen sink. Line the bottom of the sink with paper towels to protect the sink. Little rocks will invariably get scattered as you pour the substrate around the plant. Follow the illustrations enclosed with the Orchidae to repot the plant. I had some of the substrate left over. My orchid was in a small pot, about 3" in diameter, about 4" tall. I DID NOT remove the existing potting medium from my orchid - I just set the orchid in the Lechuza pot and added the supplied substrate around it.The Orchidae pot is pretty big. Pay attention to the measurements of the pot given by Lechuza. They show inner dimensions where the plant is potted and also the dimensions of the outer pot.Lechuza makes attractive self-watering pots that take your houseplants to the next level - so elegant looking.

Der Topf sieht nicht nur hervorragend aus, er ist auch super praktisch: er sorgt für eine gute Bewässerung der Pflanzen.Da ich es leider hin und wieder vergesse zu Gießen, ist dieser Topf sehr praktisch für mich.Ich habe auch noch weitere Töpfe des Herstellers und kann sie alle empfehlen. Sie sehen großartig aus und sind von guter Qualität!
