Dim Sum Time - Cantonese: With Traditional Chinese Characters Along with English and Cantonese Jyutping (Chinese Edition)

The book is really fun and I think a great way to get a baby into some basic cantonese. Some other reviews for this item claim that the Jyutping is incorrect and the book is in fact written in Mandarin—I disagree. This book is written in standard "Written Cantonese", as opposed to "bak wah" (vernacular Cantonese). The Jyutping essentially follows the Sidney Lau romanization. (Disclaimer: I speak native Cantonese and lived in Hong Kong for 18 years).My baby and I have read this book three or four times a week and he gets really into it. I highly recommend this book to cantonese parents.My one dislike of this book is that the pages are flimsy. My toddler is really into the book and will grab the pages. The book lasted about 16 months and I am now getting another copy. I wish there was a board book version.

This was a horrible waste of money, worth maybe $3, not $12. It feels like a flimsy pamphlet, not a book, like something you’d get as a free promotional item at a restaurant. The “Cantonese” is horrible too, I was hoping to use this as a tool to teach my baby but I’ll just have to wing it since the “pinyin” is not useful at all.

I love that this book has chinese characters, jyutping pronunciation, and English. This is a fantastic book to have for anyone who is learning Cantonese or for anyone who is not 100% confident in reading chinese characters.

This book is mislabeled. The characters are not in Cantonese at all, but in Mandarin. What a waste of money for someone who is trying to practice Cantonese. I wish I could get a refund.

Returned the book as it is too short and the writing does not resonate with real Cantonese literature. No one actually talks like that in Cantonese. I wanted to buy it as a gift for my boyfriend to learn Cantonese but I can never imagine him speaking like that to my family as we do not even speak how it is written.

A very short story about a boy who is having dim sum with his parents and sister and keeps waiting for his favourite dish to arrive so the text has a lot of repetition. The Cantonese is very formal, like in formal writing, not the way I would a family expect to talk among each other. E.g. si6 is used instead of hai6 for "being" ( dan6 si6 instead of dan6 hai6), etc. The transcript in Jyutping is correct and useful.

the pictures and story and phonetic spelling allows our daughter to also learn Cantonese while her husband reads to their child. the phonetic approach is accurate for those whose first language is NOT Cantonese.

Cute pictures, my toddler loved it a lot and we were able to read it to her using the english pronunciations

So cute! It's hard to find cute story, bilingual English and trad Chinese! Thanks for making this book, I hope u will make more and add it to the series
