Hide and Seek: The Lying Game #4

Nobody is Innocent (in some way)
In this fourth book of the series, the Prologue is important. There are a lot of characters to keep up with. For those readers who do other things than read books for a living, this is a valuable tie in to the previous three books. This book has a lot more action, and surprises, than book three. Sutton continues to bemoan her inability to give physical assistance to Emma when Sutton sees, or thinks, Emma is in danger. Emma likes to sneak around in her search for clues. While logical, she always gets caught rummaging through someone’s room. There was a close call at Dr. Mercer’s office, though.Thayer remains an enigma. We still don’t quite know where he disappeared to. We find out that he and Sutton witnessed something in a canyon that involved Sutton’s (now Emma’s) adopted father, Dr. Mercer. Whatever happened quite possibly resulted in Sutton’s death.Sutton’s friends and even family (Dad and Laurel) are all off again, on again, suspects. This carries on from book three, but serious consideration of dad is a new twist.Emma makes some new and quite interesting discoveries in this book, but new doubts arise. The character of Mrs. Mercer has not been previously developed. With new revelations in this book, questions about Mrs. Mercer have to be answered. Why doesn’t Emma just give up and run away? She has a few thousand dollars and some possessions hidden with a friend. Why not just disappear?Let’s count the reasons up to now. 1) There is Thayer (romance). 2) She would become a murder suspect. 3) There is Thayer. 4) There is the very comfortable, wealthy lifestyle she is living as Sutton. 5) There is Thayer. 6) There is Ethan (primary love interest. 7) There is Thayer. It seems that there are still a few issues to work out in subsequent books.

Very mediocre
Ehh....I read the first two books right when they came out, and I loved them. I recently decided to reread the series and this is as far as I could go. Way too juvenile for my taste, and they got repetitive as hell! You can only repeat the same thing so many times before it just gets boring and ridiculous. This series DID NOT need to be as long as it did. Emma just kept going back an forth. "It's Laurel! No wait...the killer is Thayer! Oh wait..." without having any actual evidence or reason. I actually just DNFed the series and looked up how it ended, and it was pretty much how I suspected.

Kindle Edition - May contain spoilers.
I read the Kindle version. We return to Sara Shepard's story of "The Lying Game." It picks up were book 3 left off. Emma is now questioning Laurel. Throughout the book, it is pretty much the same as when Emma questioned Thayer. She goes through Laurel's room, and keeps finding new evidence that strongly convinces her that Laurel is the one whom killed Sutton. We meet new characters, and there is a spin in the middle. I don't want to say because it would ruin the whole book for those who haven't yet read it. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been following the book series. It took me almost a week to read this book, but only because I was busy with other things as well. If you were to take a day and read it, you could have it finished in a day.

4/5
It was a good book. The fourth book out of a six book series. I do get a little annoyed that the author uses the first ten chapters here and there to tell what already happened in the first three books before this one. But other than that good book.

Just ok
I usually love the books that Sara Shepard writes. I think that she is a really talented writer, but I just wasn't drawn in by this book. I felt like the first 80% was filler, and the last 20% was where all of the action/ anything of importance happened. Also the ending to this book was shocking, wild, crazy, whatever but I felt like it wasn't very realistic. I don't know I just didn't like where this book took the story line. I also felt like Sara focused so much energy on trying lead the reader to think Laurel and Mr. Mercer were guilty of Sutton's death that it was obviously not them. Whoever killed Sutton is obviously going to be a shock, so I felt like Sara devoting as much of this book on trying to lead you to believe that it was them ruled them out automatically. To sum it up I usually enjoy Sara's books, but this one just didn't t do it for me. It seemed dry and was mostly filler, it wasn't compelling or thrilling like her books usually are. Hopefully the next book will be better.

And so the saga continues
This series just keeps getting better. They are cleverly written with twists and turns to keep you hooked just when you think you've guessed who did it. You are shot down in flames and its on to the next suspect.

Teen must have
Bought for teenage daughter who loves this series. She devours these books and as she is not a reader I buy her them all. I would rather she read these than not at all.
