VIVO Screened Bottom Board Frame for Langstroth Beehive, Beekeeping Hive Screen Tool BEE-HV00SC

This is a great product. I bought two, and I’m able to look for mites on the bottom that slides out. If you are going to buy a screened bottom board, I recommend this one. I can still treat with OA with how this bottom board can be configured.One of the items arrived stained in some sort of oil. Seller was responsive and the item was exchanged quickly. It was most likely the shipping and not the seller.

As I learn about bees, the importance of a screened bottom board, especially in Texas, becomes more obvious. A screened bottom board allows good ventilation and enhances the bees' own pest control efforts. Small hive beetles and Varroa destructor mites fall through the bottom and can't get back in; provided your hive is on a stand that deters their crawling back up to it. I use ant traps filled with cedar oil under the four corners of my hive.My hive is by Hoover and the Deeps and the Super it came with are coated in beeswax. This was a huge selling point to me because I don't want paint or other chemical coatings on my hive.The bottom Deep was sent home with me with bees I obtained from a local keeper. I had waited until the bees got fairly well comfortable before transferring the frames to the new hive box. I then decided with some encouragement from experienced keepers that I should use a screened bottom board. So I decided to delay the transfer until I got one, as the hive needs to be disassembled to install a new bottom board. It was also a good time to do my second inspection. The entire process took a couple of hours but if you're just installing the board, it'll take maybe 30 minutes.It is very solid, well designed and simple to grasp the use of. But, and this is the only real criticism I have, it had no beeswax, or for that matter any coating. Though given the choice between no coating and some synthetic, I'd choose the former. So it took a couple of ours to melt enough beeswax and paint all of the exposed wood with it.The "dagger board" that allows you to close up the hive is made up of a melamine coated Masonite (I think) and is very sturdy for its weight and thickness. The screen is a stainless steel "fabric" that is probably in the neighborhood of 28 gauge wire. Very sturdy and the edges do not offer any security risks to the hive.PROS:Sturdy, solid wood construction.Very well thought out design.CONS (relative):Needs to be coated by the purchaser. Again that's better to my way of reckoning than some type of chemical coating.Requires the disassembly of the hive if it's already established.

I’m a first year bee keeper. Learning fast about all the things to be worried about. My neighbor started his hive at the same time and lost his bees to wax moth and hive beetles within two months. Long story short smart thing to do I’ve seen first hand is to get a screen bottom board. I started my second 5 frame nuc and put them in 10 frame box. Needed a second screened bottom board. This seller was out of stock so I ordered from someone else. Not even close to the quality of this one. I will only use this screen bottom board for all my future hive boxes. When I saw they were back in stock I ordered my second one and currently waiting for it to arrive. Thanks for producing a quality product.

Unfinished, yes, but it doesn't claim to be finished. Great bottom board with the removable wind break. Mine came with an entrance reducer as well, which wasn't stated nor shown. A quick coat of white paint to match my hive and swapped out. Well worth it. I'm gonna have happy bees.

I love this screened bottom board. It's well made and works great. The bottom whiteboard slides in and out to make it easier to keep track of mites. The unit comes unpainted, so I painted the outside surfaces of mine to protect them from the elements. I would definitely buy this again. In fact, I want to change over to 8-frame boxes (slightly less heavy), so I need to order a couple smaller ones than the 10-frame size I bought.

Quality is good but I could get this lot cheaper from a supply compnay
