Great way to fill in the gaps of Servlet and JSP knowledge
This book filled in a lot of the gaps I had regarding Servlets and JSPs, plus some basic info on Spring and Tomcat. The book is definitely not for beginning programmers, but it is still an introduction to Servlets. So you'll want to have some Java or related programming language experience first, but you can come in knowing nothing about Servlets or JSPs and you'll be fine. Each chapter is full of examples explaining the concepts. The book is way easier to read than the Java documentation online, and really just covers the basics. It doesn't assume any sort of frameworks or other tools (until you get to the Spring chapter, way towards the end of the book) which is really nice, you can get started right away. I wish I had this book a few years ago when learning about Servlets for the first time.

Though "Servlet, JSP and Spring MVC: A Tutorial" ...
Though "Servlet, JSP and Spring MVC: A Tutorial" is titled as a "tutorial" it is written for those with lots of experience writing servlets. It is not for beginners and it is not a tutorial. The authors do not explain themselves and their descriptions lack continuity and basic explanation. Their e-mail at [email protected] is down so they don't support their product.

Very useful, well explained
Not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about. I have no servlet experience and this book covers the subject area very well. It has given me a good over view of servlets and containers and I've found it well written.I dropped the book one star because I think it needs an appendix which describes the history of web servers, cgi, j2ee ....... basically cover how we got to where we are. I also think it should not only cover MVC but also offer some details of alternative methods of providing front end control such as GWT and how these fit in to the jEE world.
