Body Trauma: A Writer’s Guide to Wounds and Injuries (Get It Write)

An intersting book with excellent wound descriptions however I wanted to know more of wounds made "traditional" weapons like dagger/knife, sword, axe, and other historical type weapons to different parts of the body. Some aspects helped but I wanted more detail. (What would happen if the wound was not treated...12th century did not have much assistance on the battlefield) As a fledgling writer there good ideas in this book. Great for those writers who are into crime etc. perhaps in his next book David Page could write about wounds caused by the ones I mentioned above.

A great book to have in your reference library!

This was a decent book for beginners dealing with injuries and wounds, however, I feel like it could have been more in-depth on what certain types of injuries look like, how they affect the body, and how they are treated. A lot was crammed in, which is good, but not enough details about specific types of trauma.

This book has a lot of informative reference material inside. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to delve into writing about injuries, murder and mayhem.

Pleased with the content of the book. It had been very helpful in my writing and my ability to properly describe traumatic injury. Along with my medical background I feel much more prepared to describe trauma.

This is a great read. Not only does it give me great insight into the effects of different trauma it also is a great tutorial on human anatomy and the results that can occur from trauma. Much more than I expected. Worth the money and then some.

Oversize, aka 'trade' paperback.The cover feels like it might have a protective coating on it, but I haven't spilled coffee on it yet, so I can't guarntee that.Highly reccommended by writer friends, but it turns out this is a primer on trauma with broad categories and general discussions of the effect of various trauma on the body. It's a great place to start, but not nearly enough detail for my needs. It includes some injuries I hadn't thought of, so it's not a total waste of money, but I'm glad I didn't have to spend more for a hardback.

I found this book to be utterly useless and a complete waste of money. First off, unless your story is set in a E.R., most of what's discussed in this book won't be of much use to you. I was particularly hopeful that the chapter on burns would provide some good advice---and whilst it did talk about some of the complications and treatments that need to be considered for someone with severe burns, it really did not go into any great amount of depth. What happens to the patient if they cannot get these treatments in time? How about telling us what certain injuries look like, or how they feel?Although there were a few glimmers of information here, I couldn't help feeling massively let down. There was nothing of use in this book that I could not have gleamed from a bit of research. I was expecting something much more in depth.I might have been willing to forgive this book for the fact that it assumes that the author's characters have access to an E.R. or other such medical facility, so long as it gave me some basic information about how the injuries look and feel. But it doesn't really do that. It sticks a lot to the most common sorts of injury, but doesn't really take into account that in the realms of fiction, we often put our characters into very extreme situations. This book did not have information that I felt was much useful for "extreme" circumstances.I was almost tempted to give this book away, but perhaps there will be a few gems of information that I can mine from amongst the rubbish heap. I'd definitely recommend others avoid it. For the price, there's not enough here to be worth it.

Für jeden, der entweder selber anfangen will zu schreiben oder aber zumindest einen Einblick gewinnen will, auf wieviele Details man achten muß um es gut zu machen. Für mich ein sehr empfehlenswertes Buch.

It is super and meeting all of my needs. Great book and the best thing.
