Interesting take on super powers
I ended up reading this book on the airplane to and from Japan. It was a good travel read and kept me occupied. As far as the story, it's kind of like a highschool xmen/super hero book. I liked the idea that the main character was a little weak and useless compared to others but I don't think he brings you into the story as good as he could have. For some reason I felt annoyed at him sometimes...The story itself was interesting and worth reading. I think it would make an interesting movie for young kids and would be more enjoyable for a much younger audience.

A consistently funny, touching, and exciting book about teenage superheroes in training
It's time for some sidekicks to hero up. Though his friends' skills include martial arts, passing through walls, turning into solid granite, and shooting bolts of electricity, Drew Bean's talent as an apprentice-superhero-sidekick is almost more of a disability. Nevertheless barely teenaged, too-young-to-drive Drew proves to be a natural leader - even though he has only his nose for trouble to guide him, and is confused enough as it is about girls, friendship, math class, the sidekick Code, and how to keep his parents oblivious to his Super issues. Happy is the reader who will share his adventure, full of thrilling action, self-deprecating humor, heartache, and bittersweet romance.

Fun to Read!
My impression of this book from only the first few pages was- wow this is so fun to read! Once I started, I could not stop reading Sidekicked. I love the characters and the humor in this book. I feel like the author can relate well to middle-school kids. The ending was definitely a twist- but it made me kind of sad. I hope there is a follow-up. I can't say more or I'd give it away! Also, I agree with the other reviewer, this book would make a fun cartoon. Are you listening Pixar?

Fun super-sidekick story
This was a fun book, not too heavy, not too light. An interesting take on superheroes and sidekicks, kids, parents, middle school, and human nature.

What does it take to be a sidekick?
This is an interesting perspective about sidekicks in training and what happens when your superhero doesn't pull through. Lots of twists and turns and would be high interest for a reluctant reader.

Part of a new sub-genre of superhero stories, the untold sidekick tale. Very amusing and well-crafted, enjoyed the plot
4.5 starsGreat perspective on the superhero tale. Really enjoyed seeing the sidekick take on thingsThere have been a few children's books on a similar topic lately (Othergirl, My Brother is a Superhero), and this complements the sub-genre.Andrew Bean is part of the world of the superheroes, with secret lessons in school to train him for 'active service' one day. He has a power - super senses, he has a hero... well, sort of. His hero hasn't been around for a while, so he's not really much of a Sidekick. But there is a villain in town - will this force his Super into action and out of hiding?I thought Andrew was a realistic teenager - a little whiny but quite appealing, funny and (unlike some other reviewers) I didn't find him annoying. The story and world was well drawn, with superheroes 'the norm' and accepted (in the vein of 'The Incredibles'), they have fans, some people moan about their destruction.I liked the plot, not too simplistic - some depth to both sides of the good/evil spectrum, with great powers and names for the heroes and villains, and a realistic arc at school with budding romances and rivalries, training sessions and lessons, the real world of the normal and the superhero world (do Andrew's parents suspect?) clashing. Will definitely try to read Minion, the companion novel to this.A fresh take on the superhero genre, written well for and aimed at a market of ages 10-14.
