Nice shredder that does not take up too much space ...
Nice shredder that does not take up too much space and does not require power. Easy to use for one sheet at a time. Tray arrived cracked so purchasing the warranty might be a good idea. I am pursuing a replacement tray with the seller. Highly recommended.

Desk-sized, manual shredding, makes paper into bits of confetti. Also has separate slots for DVDs and Cards.
[Updated review 2015 June 08: There seems to be a quality issue with the unit, and seller response time for issuing a return has turned into more than 6 days. Caution needed when buying this as an import.]was looking for a manual paper shredder that could sufficiently pulverize old documents with identifying information. This was the only paper shredder that met those requirements, that I could find on Amazon.com.The best things about this shredder: it requires no electricity, and it is quite small (12.25in W x 5.375in D x 7.375in H, 31cm W x 13.7cm D x 18.7cm H). It will fit on a table top, unlike most of the electric shredders that have a waste basket-sized receptacle. Before starting a major shredding episode, I applied some lubricating oil (not included with the unit I received) to all of the slots. It is quite a good shredder. It will take no more than 2 pages in the paper slot at once. When fed into the paper slot, sheets of paper were turned into small bits of confetti, no larger than 5 millimeters in length or width (that's about 1/5 of an inch). It was possible to shred perhaps 15 sheets of 8.5in x 11in paper, before the holding receptacle needed to be emptied. The receptacle slides forward, like a drawer. While shredding, I did not have any problems with the receptacle sliding open. The designer appears to have made the receptacle fit snugly, so it won't slide open while grinding.I spent a few hours trying out the DVD slot and the credit card slot as well. All three slots shredded well-enough. Initial attempts to shred stiff business cards turned out well. I believe the first few business cards shredded were quite pulverized. I did not have any DVDs to shred, so I fed a few strips of paper into the DVD slot, and they ended up similarly pulverized on the first few attempts. The instructions that come with the unit, and much of the labeling and packaging are in Japanese, but the shredder really is quite easy to use. If the paper thickness creates too much resistance, you can turn the crank in the reverse direction, to reverse the paper's motion, to free the paper from the shredder blades. There were a few concerns that I did encounter:(Keep in mind that the unit I received was identified as defective, but it did shred quite well!)1. It seems on the unit I received, the DVD slot and credit card slot do not cross-cut the items. I reported this to the seller, who replied that the unit received was most-likely defective.2. The cranking system seemed not to be completely efficient. I reported to the seller that there was an intermittent mechanical problem with the cranking system, where about 1 out of every 4 rotations did nothing to advance paper into the paper slot. The seller replied to explain that the unit I received was defective, and that I should effect a return through Amazon.3. The unit tends to tip over, unless held by hand. I was usually cranking from above, using my right arm to rotate the crank. I had to hold the unit with my left hand, while cranking. This had to be done without obstructing the paper from advancing into the slot.4. Fragments of paper seem to remain caught in the blades after a sheet of paper has been shredded. I tried rotating the crank in both directions to jostle the fragments free, but it seemed that unless I removed the holding receptacle and picked out the paper fragments, or just shredded another sheet, the fragments remained. This was not a big problem. Perhaps a way to quickly remove the blades could be designed into a future model? [It would be efficient to have the complete blade assembly slide out to the side where the crank is currently located, in a future or different version of this paper shredder. This would allow the caught fragments of paper to be more easily removed.]The shredder would be quite a lot better if there were either a handle for holding it in place while cranking, or an attachable plank that would prevent the shredder from tipping forward or backwards while cranking. These two might be combinable, by having a movable high arch with a handle, that could slide along the horizontal width of the shredder. The high arch would have to be tall enough so it does not get in the way of the paper that is being fed into the paper slot. Another siimpler solution would be to add a removable handle to the left side of the unit, so the handle does not obstruct the motion of the paper.I did purchase a protection plan for the item, but only because no one had reviewed it on Amazon.com's US site. Because the unit I received was defective, it was worthwhile. I had to return mine, but the seller (Equinox-Japan) was very accommodating and offered to cover the cost of return postage, as well as refund the price of the shredder.
