Disappointed. Best thing about this book is the cover.
I bought this book based upon the picture inventory of typical Lego Technic parts that was available as an Amazon preview function. After receiving the book and looking at the pictures, I was disappointed; the pictures were produced by a photostatic copier which produced murky images that made distinguishing the various parts difficult, and sometimes, nearly impossible.Like other books on Lego Technic, this book also shows just portions of constructions and assemblies with the author's intent that he's trying to show how to solve a specific mechanical function. The assembling of the various parts to make a whole enchilada is up to you. That's great if you're an experienced Technic builder; I'm not.One thing that I found particularly annoying is the omission of any commentary on the various types of pins and their unique functions in Technic models. Pins are a crucial and essential part of Technic constructions. Some Technic models have a thousand pins or more. It'd be nice to know when to use what and what are the criteria for using one over the other.Sorry to say, don't waste your money on this book. I'd give it one star but I don't want to be nasty about it. The author must think he's produced a gem here, but I don't.

Not much content, horrible photography.
After an interesting introductory section, where the author points out lots of places on the internet to get free information and free CAD programs and where to buy bricks and stuff, the rest of the book covers a handful of the author's projects, and that's about it. And there is a parts list with parts numbers at the end.Illustration is by really, really bad out-of-focus black and white photographs shot against gray backgrounds. The funny thing about this is if you check the "Look Inside," the illustrations there are in color... Hmmm....I am sending this back to Amazon (who fulfilled my order), because I suspect they sent me a photcopied counterfeit copy. Maybe this book deserves three stars or more with usable illustrations. The copy I got deserves one.

Good book

Looks like it's been printed on a worn-out photocopier
Insofar as content is concerned, this is a good book: it explains - in detail - how to build the basic elements required to create various kinds of vehicle (chassis, steering, suspension, propulsion etc.). Unfortunately, the build diagrams are virtually impossible to follow for two reasons: 1) the images are too small and 2) they are printed in black-and-white (to be more precise, barely distinguishable shades of murky grey). So top marks to the authour for trying, but nil points to the useless publisher. Mr Rollins, I suggest you find a new publisher who is not a penny-pinching skinflint and who - I summise - has never built a lego model in their life. Oh, and the book is only 254 pages, not 550 as claimed in the description. I'll be returning this book to Amazon - very dissapointing!

Very poor images and half the book is missing!
Though the content is good you can not follow the images as they are so small and grey you can't make them out. It needs to be in colour so you can identify the pieces. To make matters worse the book isn't complete for example where is the section about the walking vehicles that it states on the blurb? This book has been rushed it is obvious and is very disappointing for the price. I will be returning the book to amazon. I don't recommend you buy until it is re-printed and COMPLETE !!!!!

these books have to have the model illustrations in colour-other wise very difficult to understand.
It was ok, but as I have experience with technical lego it did not add to my knowledge

Errors
Just getting started on this book ...have started building the first project. Very frustrating....there are many little errors in parts placement. Really turns me off, right at the start of the book. There was a long delay in publishing....it also seemed that the book was to be in colour !Anyways ..to start off....I just got fed up with errors in the very first project. The pieces were dark on the page ...often had to guess where to put in connecting pieces. Other times the count of a part to be installed was wrong. If this continues, going forward....I will just junk this poorly edited excuse for a Lego book ....and do something else with my partsExample....I strained my eyes to fit connecting pins on beams....and was sure as possible doing the correct thing....then several steps later....as I wanted to attach something else...the hole(s) was blocked by previously inserted pins.I am, by the way quite an experienced Lego Technic builder.A poor work , to be sure !!

Unimpressed
The idea of the book is fine, but it's let down by small, monochrome photographs. Since lego parts aren't just shades of grey, why produce what could be a very useful book without colour? I quickly got irritated by the poor quality of the images, and it's now sat on the shelf.
