Better than leaving it hanging on the third, but still a poor ending.
I am glad Markus Heitz decided to finish the series properly. I did not like how the third one ended so open endedly, and feel at least satisfaction it has a definite end. It might not be the way I'd like, and the author wrote this book in a completely new direction, but I still enjoyed it!Don't let the people above change your mind about finishing this wonderful series. I will say I'm sad to see it end but it has been an incredible journey to see the characters progress and change after each new book. The only criticism I have is the development of Tungdil in the book, if you read the sneak peek of the third you see he emerges from the Black Abyss, but its the after-effects that I did not like. No spoilers, but I believe the author takes too long to drag out his development in this book.Overall I would give it a 4 out 5 just because it drags out a bit and the ending, but I am glad to see one of my favorite series have a proper end.

Good but not great
This a review of the series in general, not just this specific book. All in all Mr. Heitz writes a fast paced book with multiple action sequences. It's definitely not boring by any means. My issues with the series have to do with how the characters are portrayed. Similar to Game of Thrones, characters are created, grow and then are killed off. Also, they change rather quickly; going from good to bad and vice versa. The rapid changes are explained by magic corruption or the typical bad stuff happened so the character completely changes his or her personality. With the rather high turnover in both individuals and personalities, it is hard to develop any attachment to them. All in all, the book is a good read. Not memorable, but good.

Series will steal your fantasy heart!
What is there NOT to love! Adventure, action and a story line that pops alive in your mind. Well written, great world building skills! One of my very favorite series ever!

I've Read them all and really enjoyed it!
Hello everyone, I've read all 4 of these books from Marcus Heitz. I've read some of the other Reviews about the storyline and the ending not being up to par. I wanted to give my own comment because I thought those reviews weren't legitimate. I enjoyed all 4 of the dwarves books and thought even though I didn't like the way it ended.. I couldn't think there would be a more "fitting" ending. This story line from book 1-4 was always gripping to me from the characters.. to the different parts of Girdlegard. I'm Glad I've read them and If you like the first 3.. Read the last one.. It's enjoyable and I was caught by it and couldn't put it down. So I give it 5 stars because it was a good end to the storyline. Thanks

Not the best book in the series but...
I ordered the fate of the dwarves 2 days after it was released and had to wait 19 days before it finally arrived (I ordered through PBshopus). It was hard for me to read at first because it wasn't his general writing style but, I got over that quickly and started to become more enthused with the book. The book is written from many different people's perspectives much like the third one was which I found to be an enjoyable writing style. You didn't quite know what was going to happen and what was going on at the time which I impatiently wanted to read more to see if those mysteries ever got solved and was disappointed. Theres a lot of new ideas but, not a lot of answers to whats going on. I did not enjoy this book as much as I did the rest but, it was still a good book nonetheless. I give 3 stars.

Confusing but good
Ok hang on for right now. because I am trying to figure out what happened for the last 250 cycles. there are a lot of the story midding. you don't know just they got to this point or why Scholar went into the badlands. So I am kind of lost. but the story line is good. but who is this new wixard from the badlands. Well you have to read on to find out. And I have not gotten 200 pages into the book because there do do much coming at you at once.

Good not great
Must be something German, since it definitely ended on a note no American author would have left it at. At least none that I know of. All I can say is that this book ENDED the series and that is wasn't too horrible. It was an exciting read with many deep characters and twist after twist. That being said, some of the excellent mechanics were never explained, and the blasted joke that keeps coming up is not only never addressed but the author makes a big stink about NOT telling his fans (absolute jerk move), the setting's changes weren't adequately explained with the time gap, and the translated version used writing conventions that are beaten out of every prospective author from day one. All in all not a worthy book to read on its own, but worthy to finish the series with.

Markus Heitz- The Fate Of The Dwarves
What a FANTASTIC new book by Markus Heitz! It hails Tungdils return from the Black Abyss and it plays host to a new adventure with old friends to rescue Girdlegard from even darker evils. Filled with fantasy, fighting, humour and magic this book will keep you smiling and you will find it very hard to put down! For anyone who read and enjoyed the previous Dwarves books then this is a must read.A whole host of new characters are introduced and a brand new Girdlegard is unfolded. With an interesting and unexpected ending this book might make false fans upset. However for me it was a wonderful end to the series and I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of reading it.

Disappointing
The 1at 3 books in this series were very good , all 4 out of 5.However this book seemed to just drag along as if to make up the word/page count. The bits that should have been good just werent. Not sure I can be bothered to read the 5th book or any of the others by MH.

Brilliant read
Having loved the entire series of the Dwarves adventure I was very excited to read The Fate of the Dwarves. It didn't disappoint!I was somewhat concerned when I read other reviews which said that Ireheart took over the narration, but I was worried about nothing; Heitz's writing remains excellent and Ireheart was certainly the correct choice of narrator. If you have loved the Dwarves up until now you have to finish off the series!

So sad it's the last
I really enjoyed the entire series, i felt like I knew each character. The author writes in a way that appeals to me,each chapter flowed beautifully felt like I was absorbing the words . I simply couldn't read it fast enough!!There are to be no more, but mayhap, a few more of his books translated into English from German.
