Refreshing mints and a very useful metal case to use after you're all done!
These are just great to have everywhere, like in my car, in several of my backpacks and sling bags, and of course at home. They just taste great, leave your breath feeling fresh, and after you're done, provides with you a surprisingly useful and durable metal case that you can use for a variety of purposes!

The company obviously has to produce something many people want, at a price they can afford, to stay in busines this long. So it is with(the) Callard & Bowser (Company)....and delicious ALTOID mints.I prefer peppermint mints, so I am reporting on this flavour. It is stronger than Life Savers and other mints usually found in the USA....but once you get used to the taste, (which doesn't take long at all!), you may reach the conclusion, (as I have), that nothing else will do!Altoids mints come in a nice, reusable tin. It is similar to the tins made for SUCRETS losenges. I used to eat SUCRETS losenges for everything, (including as a substitute for water, when taking prescribed pills)...and they did soothe even a painless throat, as well. But SUCRETS losenges have sadly gone WAY up in price, and so ALTOIDS is a good substitue -- if, that is, you do not need to soothe your throat. Like the SUCRETS box, the ALTOIDS box is small and easy to carry...but contains a large number of mints. The box for ALTOIDS is, in fact, even a bit prettier than the SURCRETS box.The ingredients are: Sugar, Gum Arabic, Natural Flavour, (Oil of Peppermint), and Gelatin.PART 2: B A D......P R O D U C T........D E P A R T M E N TIn her excellent and revealing one-star review of this product, DIANA S. FLEISHMAN, (to whom all who want truth in advertising owe a debt of gratitude!) states thatthe "gelatin" used in Peppermint Altoids is derived from PORK! She goes on to state the obvious: that anything with Pork in it, is not sutitable for vegans, vegetarians or those who follow Halel (Moslem), or Kosher, (Jewish), dietary laws. Even worse, NOWHERE ON THE PACKAGE IS THIS DERIVATION-SOURCE OF THE "GELATIN" IN THESE ALTOIDS, (AND PROBABALY ALSO IN ALL OTHER FLAVOURS), REVEALED. Personally, I do not follow any of these diets....but I have friends and relatives who do. RESPECT for rhe customer would MANDATE putting this additional information, (that it contains gelatin derived from Pork), on the label.........JUST IN CASE. But sadly, it is NOT on the label, One need not follow religious dictims to INSIST that this information is put out, so thatEVERYONE cam make her or his decision. This is called RESPETING other people's beliefs. That it is not stated, on the package, shows an insensitve and almost cavalier attitude on the part of the manufactuer. (Something which oftne has dire conseqences....especiallly nowadays!)I personally do NOT want to have any dietary laws forced upon me. But I RESPECTother people's traditions and beliefs. For those who are vegetarians or vegans, or who follow the Halel or Kosher food laws, knowing that ALTOIDS contain pork gelatin is important! I thank Ms. Fleishman for stating this in her review, and I state it further, in my review, so that, perhaps, more people can know of this. To the venerable CALLARD & BOWSER company, may I suggest that you put out a version of your mints with VEGETABLE gelatin? (Please start with the Peppermint mints...as these are my own particular favourite!) Truth in advertising is important...so, even if putting out mints with Vegetable Gelatin is post-poned for a short while, PLEASE STATE THE DERIVATION (PORK) OF THE GELATIN IN THOSE MINTS PRODUCED AS THEY ALWAYS HAVE BEEN!One need not follow Halel or Kosher dietary laws, or be a vegan or vegetarian, to RESPECT those who DO eat in these ways. I hope that, as we enter a new millenium, that venerable Callard & Bowser can lead the way, in respecting others' beliefs, by eventually, (and quite soon!), putting the derivation of ALL their ingredients on every package of their mints!...........................................................................U P D A T E : 22nd May, 2011: Someone commented on my review, so I began looking at other reviews for this product once again. It seems that many of the MOST RECENT comments give only ONE star. (Take a look at them!) The reason given is that the TASTE HAS NOW CHANGED. Pepperment -- the flavour I like best -- now tastes like Wintergreen to many people. Ulgh -- I HATE Wintergreen. i notice that the price has come down, since I bought them, (I paid approximately $19.95, the price is NOW approximately $17.95.) Hopefully the lower price does not signify a lowering in quality. My humble suggestion to Callard & Bowser, (whom I STILL admire greatly for staying in business s_o l_o_n_g : ) Please make 2 types of mints: regular, (present), and "superiour", (the old kind.). Please start with Pepperment first, as this is my own favourite flavour. See which type sells fastest! As for now, I'm really glad that I read those more recent 1-star reviews! For now at least, even _I_ am not buying Pepperment -- or, indeed, any other -- mints from Altoids!
