Candice Olson Kitchens and Baths

I was very happy and blown away to see Candice Olson's books on Amazon.com. Now I am coming back to Amazon for even the simplest items because I feel more assured of the quality of what I buy and great support if the item does not work out for me. In her book, Candice covers in writing what you see on TV: the challenge of the room itself, drawings of the fix she perceives, the fabrics which will blend in the beauty and position of the furniture, and the final drawing of the room itself. My initial reaction when I first saw Candice on TV was that she must have some drafting and drawing training. Sure enough the book shows it clearly. It may seem overwhelming at first, but as you read over the book once quickly and then go back and look more carefully at what she is sharing, her method teaches the reader how to plan and execute a room in the most beautiful and inexpensive and classy way.

Ah yes, kitchens and bathrooms. With Candice's expertise and thoroughly detailed examples, I will be able to recreate some of the same looks I like using her suggestions, making sure they coincidence with my rooms requirements, based on space and the amount of natural light (or the lack of it). I can work at my own pace, looking for just the right pieces that will make the room pop. I love looking through the book and finding answers to most of my challenges. Candice's solutions and suggestions are brilliant. For example, I would have never thought of placing a large artistic picture in a small entry way. What a difference it makes to a guest's first impression of your home. Whatever is special to you, this book will allow a way to incorporate it into your home in a subtle or a bright bold way - your choice. My favorite idea is a small chandler lowered over a small side table, rather than a lamp. Now that's something that definitely makes an area of a room 'pop'!

I bought this for my wife. And the following review is from my wife: "I love this book. The pictures are big and the concept is clear. Even some other reviews said it came from the show no new design, i still love it, because i can read in my own pace and try to catch the designer's ideas. I love to read again and again even in bathroom. I really enjoy reading it. I am working on being a designer, and i am really a fan of Candice Olson. I love her design style. I want to keep this book as long as i can. The only thing that i think it would be better is i wish this was a hardcover copy. Thank you, Candice, for this book even i can imagine you must be very busy. I expect you will expose more your design ideas in your following books."

I ma a big fan of Candice Olson. She is brilliant! This book comprared to the last one hgas more info and pictures. It is a very nice book with great ideas. The only little thing is that the rooms are pretty much what we have seen on tv for the past 2-3 years. I would have loved to see more NEW rooms. Anyway, buy the book, it is a great additio to your Interior Design collection and the price is really cheap. Regards.

The risk of used books is the bad smell that comes with 40% of them. Candice Olson kitchen and bath decor is outstanding and is the style I can only dream of having some day. Ladies! Look for women builders and contractors for an elegant and common sense approach to a build. Bathrooms should be light and soothing. And promote a clean sanitary look. Candice creates a gorgeous Girl -Spa! No dungeon caves!

Some good design ideas for average sized kitchens. Many publications feature grand, over-the-top kitchens. As a kitchen designer, it is sometimes difficult for me to show those photos to clients and have them envision that feeling/style in thier "average size" space. Candice shows that even an "everyday" kitchen can look spectacular. This book will be a good resource for me!

Beautiful photos full of great ideas that can be applied to whatever size space you have. I only gave 4 stars due to the fact that some of the materials that Candice uses are very similar. Would have enjoyed a little more variety. Overall a very good visual book and excellent for kitchen layout ideas.

I loved the TV show the book covers the basics of designing -and she is good but I did not like the materials as much . Maybemy taste has changed but she is a good designer.

I am one of those who read reviews and never write..but well - here goes my first.Oh, I have to start with the disclaimer first...I am prejudiced because I totally loved Candice's makeover shows - or rather loved watching 3 minutes of the beginning and the last 3 minutes of the shows. She just does wonders to those rooms. Against the above background, I was expecting rather a lot from this book and did not get disappointed. Or may be just a little, in the sense that I was upset the book wasn't triple the size and contain MORE of her designs.About the book - it is beautifully illustrated, as one would expect from any book on design, but she takes design to a whole new level. Each of her designs contains "solution" section where she explains the whys and hows, and as you read through she practically gives further ideas with her comparative notes...as in "instead of X we use Y" etc, so you practically get tons of ideas.Her eye for detail is absolutely admirable. She doesn't just show a lovely kitchen design but adorns the kitchens with the stuff that is usually expected to be in the kitchen, and...wait....she actually makes ordinary stuff look like the "star of the show". I absolutely loved the display rack for cookbooks she came up with - Brilliant! In one of her kitchens, she has incorporated a desk (thin, stylish and very efficient given its space requirement and location) and apart from adorning the desk, she uses wallpaper to make that desk a separate accent in the room, plus (hear that) she has to pet pillows on the floor under the desk in matching florals... She is amazing and this book carries tons of inspiration. If I wasn't married, I'd marry her...and if my husband reads this...I probably wouldn't be married much longer - LOL!Have awkward nooks and crannies - you should see what she achieves with those!One only needs to study the book in the detail and not hurry with the flipping of pages. The book is to be savoured as to say. Candice goes a bit on the expensive side, but if you are planning a kitchen or bath redo, all starting all from scratch, I guess you can adjust many of the things to suit your budget.Husband and I are due to start building our own house - 2 kitchens and 7 bathrooms that is - and Candice's book has already given me some very good ideas on how to look stylish without having to rob a bank.

DISSAPOINTED. ITS NICE PICTURES BUT NO CLEAR INSTRUCTION OF HOW TO GET THE LOOK. SHE IS GREAT AND HER WORK IS GREAT BUT THIS BOOK IS NOT COOL.

condice olson, famosa star televisiva americana, ci delizia con interessanti idee su come rinnovare la cucina ed il bagno. il libro è pieno di idee interessanti per poter dare quel tocco in più alle nostre case. lo fotografie sono ben dettagliate, le descrizioni un po' scarne. manca un elenco di riferimento per l'acquisto dei prodotti ma poco male, cercando un po' in rete si trovano valide alternative. ho sfogliato il libro più e più volte, ad ogni passaggio notavo un particolare nuovo.consigliatissimo per dare quel tocco glamour ai vostri ambienti
