Physical Fluid Dynamics

It is written for physicits
The best book ever written on fluid dynamics for physicists is the one by Landau and Lifshitz. But Landau & Lifshitz is not accessible to undergraduates. I know, I tried using it in class and created a revolution. David Tritton was a professor of physics at the University of Newcastle in the UK. They had a unique emphasis on geophysics and this book was written to help undergraduate physics majors. I consider it the leading book for such students.

Amazing book !
If you are afraid of mathematics but want to learn fluid dynamics then this should be your choice. This book might not contain lots of mathematical equations a typical fluid dynamics book could have, but Tritton had explained certain concepts in fluid dynamics very clearly. This book gave me lots of insights and supplemented my pre-existing knowledge in the subject.

A must have
You must have this book in your bookshelf if you are a fluid-dynamicist. As the title suggests, it is about the physics of fluid dynamics.

Not for begginers
This book is indeed very good, as it presents deeper analysis of many fluids phenomena, departing from basic ideas and fundamental concepts. But in my opinion you must already have a good understanding of fluid mechanics to really enjoy it. I guess it would not be easy for a begginer in the matter, and guess that's why some may call it confusing. In fact, you won't find that current structured treatment of the matter that other books (mainly the textbooks) presents, or the contents of regular under-graduate or graduate courses in engineering, with common engineering applications, and so on. Nevertheless, as a teacher and researcher in the field of fluid mechanics, I really enjoyed reading it, and it really improved my understanding on many topics.

good read little maths
I really enjoyed this book. I found it in a bookstore one day and read it for pleasure slowly. I am a theory student (now) so I wanted to see a lot more math, but aside from that shortcoming (which some might welcome) it was just a fantastic description of fluid motion and derivations of the governing equations on a simple level.

One of the most confusing books I've read
It's unbelievable how confusing a fluid mechanics book can be. Tritton achieved to present fluid mechanics in a way that only mathematicians (with usually no interest in fluid mechanics) can comprehend. If you need to really understand fluid mechanics and not to continuously deal with divergences and curls, better look for another book.
