My favorite rifle carry strap of all time
I've had several of the these Butler Creek nylon Mountain Slings over the years and still have one that I bought when the product hit the market, which I think was back in 1985. The reason I only have one of the many I bought long ago is that the others got misplaced over time.I got the first one when looking for a light carry strap in keeping with the overall lightweight concept of the Ruger M77RL Ultralight in .250 Savage and the Leupold Vari-X IIc compact scope 2X-7X, 33mm objective scope bought new back in 1985. The Butler Creek Mountain Sling seemed ideal for light, compact rifle I planned to use it with, and for the last 29 years, it has been exactly that. The Mountain Sling is made out of a very high quality nylon web strap material. On one end, the strap is sewn around an Uncle Mike's sling swivel of the quick detach design that incorporate a barrel screw lock to prevent inadvertent detachment of the sling. The strap at the other end is looped through another one of the aforementioned sling swivels, then back up to the adjustment buckle, to which it is sewn on that end.Other similar slings have excees loops of strap material. This one only uses as much material as is necessary to do the primary job.Very effective non-slip material is sewn to the back side of the strap on it's "non-looped" end and this does an excellent job of preventing the rifle being carried from slipping off the shoulder. When the strap is adjusted for length, it tends to stay put at it's set ooverall length adjustment very well. The Uncle Mike's locking QD swivels work very well.Like many things previously made in the U.S.A., the manufacture of this item has shifted to China since I bought my first one 29 years ago. In this case, though, all of the quality of the original U.S.A. item remains fully intact, in terms of materials and construction. The only way I can tell old from new is that my old one has some bluing wear on the swivels. Otherwise, they are identical in every respect.I'm happy for that because these have proved very durable for me and go about the task they were designed for very well and are especially well-suited to lightweight rifles like my Ruger Ultralight, or similar rifles like the Remington Model Seven. I also use these on my 10/22 Deluxe Sporter, a Marlin 336, and a Ruger No.1B (which ain't all that light).I might rather have a true military style Boyt leather sling on something like an old '03 Springfield or Springfield Armory M-1A that I am shooting as a target rifle, but in the hunting field, the Butler Creek Mountain Sling seems like an ideal choice to me.

Very Nice Sling
A very nice sling. All seams are strong and neat. The hardware is excellent. The friction strip for the shoulder works perfectly. Highly recommended.

My favorite sling... but quality is decreasing over the years
I own several of these - it's pretty much the only sling I use. Overall, love it... but, as the years go by I've noticed that the quality of the sling has been decreasing. The swivels are some no-name brand now (used to be Uncle Mikes, but no longer) and the non-slip leather strip is getting narrower and narrower with each sling (used to pretty much span the whole width of the sling, but now seems to be missing about a quarter or what it was before. Also, the stitching seems to be less secure, almost like they were made in a rush. They still work well and I think will last, but I am disappointed with the subtle changes. I used to give these 5 stars, but am dropping down to 4 stars due to the lagging quality. They had a really good product, but now it seems are starting to cut corners... sigh.

So glad to see they are still making this sling!
I got one of these free with a new Mossberg turkey gun about 20 years ago and although that one is still going strong I have been looking for more to put on my other guns ever since. Just received two from Amazon and ordering two more. It's a simple, basic sling, perfect for duck and turkey shotguns or small, light rifles. Sewn in swivels means no buckles that can come loose from the swivel (I dropped a gun that way once), no extra bulk, and the sewn-in rubber shoulder grip strip on the inside upper part is a nice touch. It just gets the job done, period. If you're a turkey hunter, you're going to love this sling - I use it to carry my birds out of the woods. Take the sling off the gun, put the lower loop end around one of the bird's legs (above the spur) and tighten the loop. Take the upper end of the sling and tie a simple overhand knot around the bird's other leg above the spur. Stick your arm through the sling (between the bird's legs from front to back), slide the sling over your shoulder - and walk for miles if you need to. Depending on your height, you can adjust the knot you tie so that the bird's head falls to about your lower calf / ankle area - no more turkey blood on your back! Now, if they just made it in camo like my old one.......

QD Uncle Mike's swivels...
Needed a lite weight QD rifle sling and this fits the bill. There are really a lot of slings in the market...Butler Creek has been out there forawhile now. Having uncle mike's swivels is icing on the cake.

Nice basic sling.
I have a few expensive padded slings but this basic nylon is what is on my rifles. It stays put and is long enough to sling across my back on long climbing hikes. Just ordered another.
