Much better than the last edition!
I have the previous edition of this book. It is ok - but this edition is much better. The type is cleared and slightly larger and the paper is lighter in color. This actually makes quite a difference when reading it. But the best part is that the vocabulary sections have been greatly increased. Many words are given in their base form and then slight variations are given directly below. For example, Saxt - saxti - be-saxti = difficult, difficulty, with difficulty. It also seems like more words have been added to the lists. All in all, I would say that the differences in this volume make it worth buying this edition even if you have a prior one. I wish that Routledge would do this same revision with some of the other Colloquial editions.

Small size makes it hard to keep it open, read the middle or even write on it
I agree that the content is good, no problem with that. But the book is so small that it's hard to use it as a study/text book. It's just 5.5in by 8.5in, and it's over 450 pages. Imagine opening it and holding the left side to just read it. My left hand gets tired holding it like that after a few minutes because it's so stiff. Also, it doesn't open flat in the middle and you need to apply force to keep it open in order to read the text close to the center. There are exercises where you are supposed to fill in missing words/phrases, and with this kind of discomfort and small size, it's pretty hard to write on it. Why would you make it so small? It's a 65 freaking bucks book! It was going to be my perfect book to learn the language, but unfortunately it annoys me now.

Great accompaniment to Text
Was extremely helpful to supplement the classroom and textbook learning with this DVD. Make it easier to begin to really 'hear' the spoken Farsi and try to pick out words in sentences and understand what is being said. Glad to have purchased it.

Improved from last edition
There are many improvements from the previous version; the vocabulary and dialogs are a bit more up-to-date and better reflect the rhythm and humor of Iranian conversation.

I like the style and vocabulary
I liked how the material is presented. CD is extremely helpful. I had to buy CD separately. Enjoy studying by this book. I have a few different books tried them to see which one I like, and stayed with this one.It gives a colloquial pronunciation and many times spelling, which is different from the dictionary. For example "to know" is spelled دونستن , but they do explain that and give the literary spelling دانستن

Good way of listening to Farsi and learning
I learnt some Farsi when I had an Iranian partner. I really enjoyed learning a different language specially one so different in sound and sentence construction to English. I bought these CDs as I felt I'd forgotten so much that I could start listening to Farsi again when driving around. I do not have the textbook that accompanies the CDs. The CDs appear to be good quality with clear speech and opportunities to repeat words and phrases before the next thing is said on the CD. One thing I noticed was that the first few tracks are pronounciation of letters, vowels and simple words but the conversations get quite complicated quite quickly. For me this has been a good way of really testing myself but I think if I was a total beginner the pace would seem very quick and it might put me off. Overall I think it is a good product - certainly now cheap though

Excellent course!
This course has exceeded my expectations. I designed my own 3 month intensive "self-taught" Persian course and this has been one of the resources I selected. Initially, I have relied on the CDs (copied to an iPod) to become familiar with the sounds of the language, vocabulary, sentence structure etc. A great advantage (of the CDs) is that the English is repeated after the Persian words. This means that I can take the iPod with me on a walk and don't need the textbook. The textbook contains a transliteration of all the Persian text. It also distinguishes between literary and colloquial forms of the language. I can thoroughly recommend it.

Very useful for beginners and intermediate learners
Very well written and concepts clearly explained. Although I had spent a lot of time, prior to getting this book, learning Persian and can read the script very easily, I still found the transliteration useful as the script does not have diacritical marks. Learnt very useful things, such as differences between formal and colloquial. The only thing I wish for is more grammar in detail with the Persian terminology as well.

Very good and accurate work
Very good and accurate work, though you need a basical knowledge of formal Persian before you start. Grammar notes go straight to the essential needs and enable you to build sentences on you own. A companion you must not miss.
