Great concept in need of better editing.
The idea of making learning a new language something the whole family can enjoy is a great one, which is what attracted me to this book. The author breaks everything down into simple, bite-sized lessons that work perfectly in a no-pressure environment. She also includes some interesting stories about French culture, as well as ideas for fun activities and links for further study. The sole reason I couldn't give this book 5 stars is in the execution. This book desperately needed a better editor. The French is occasionally sloppy, at one point confusing formal with familiar phrasing, and the pronunciation guides can be hit or miss, sometimes contradicting themselves. There was at least one grammatical error in English, as well. Nitpicky stuff, but you'd expect better from a language book.I'll definitely be using this with my family, but am glad I know enough French to be able to compensate for when the author gets it wrong.

I appreciate this product and the way that it is ...
I appreciate this product and the way that it is organized with a few new phrases and words integrated into each of the week's lessons. Some of the ideas are straightforward and obvious while others are new and helpful. If you or your family member are a true beginner of French and you are looking for ways to integrate more French into your family life, this book will provide some ideas and support. -Jesica Nkouaga, Author of the English-French Bilingual Book, The Diamond Family Plays Hide-and-Seek.

My family has loved using this to prepare for a trip we're taking ...
My family has loved using this to prepare for a trip we're taking to France. I speak French and was looking for a fun way to help everyone else learn. I do wish there was more practical vocabulary and phrases for traveling or speaking to a French person; one week, for example, taught us to say "I am a boy" and "I am a girl," which is sort of useful but wouldn't come up in actual conversation!

Awesome Idea
This is such an awesome idea! Teach them while they're young. Not only will they retain it better, but the kids will be genuinely engaged and loving their new language. I can't wait until I can take my girls to Paris and there won't be some absurd language barrier. I'm very happy with this language tool and the unique methods of learning. It is so much fun and great for families. You can tell that the author Eileen Mc Aree is a knowledgeable author who has composed this as a tried, true, and effective way to achieve a great beginner level introduction to French. My skills as well as those of my family has improved so much. I don't think there could have been a better resource to use. Absolute marvel. I don't even have to think twice before recommending this to someone with kids!

English and French
Not really satisfied with this book ! I know a little french but not much so greeting in french is easy for me and my children, but there are other words in the book that has the English pronunciation but harder words don't and when you go to search for it on the Web you can't find the word

Fun for the Whole Family! Try Something New!
What a useful and wonderful book for the whole family! Out of curiosity, I ordered this book because I always wanted to learn French but was a little apprehensive about starting a formal program. Eileen Mc Aree does not disappoint with this plan. This book was written to involve the whole family, not just individual learning, which makes this book unique and joyful to work with. The lessons are perfect for a stubborn guy like me to memorize, recite, and share with the entire family. The pronunciations are spelled out for you as well, which is an important consideration when learning any new language. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to learn a new language and try something fun, and something new that involves the whole family!

If you're pretty up to snuff on your high school french
If you're pretty up to snuff on your high school french, this book will feel very easy. I loved the concept. I purchased it because I do speak a good amount of french and want to raise my child bilingual, but need help with ideas on how to keep it coming, more or less. Well, this was just too simple, a phrase or two a week. If you, yourself are also learning french it might be more useful but otherwise its just disappointing. I liked the "Play and Learn French" book much better.

I love the layout of the book!
I really like the way this book is laid out. I took 7 years of French in high school and college, however, I'm rusty now. I want to get my 5 year old exposed to another language, so I bought this book as a refresher for myself and to teach him! We've been working on it for about 2 months now and he (and I) are doing very well with it!

Pronunciation is terrible..
So it looks like a simple book for me to work through with my kids, and we are going to use it. I'm glad I have a fairly good understanding of French though as the pronunciation guide is shocking (French with an English accent) and there are a few errors. I took a photo of one and I'm 99% sure you always combine je and avoir into j'avoir. I didn't write a book though, so I'm just going off my GCSE french from more than a decade ago. It's not great, I would search for a better book if I were you.
