My first Shantae game
It was my first time playing a Shantae game. I got the game because the graphics looked very appealing to me - and I didn't get disappointed. It is a beautifully designed metroidvania-esque game. You only have a few worlds to play, but the more secrets you uncover and the more abilities you unlock the more mysteries you uncover in those worlds. So you keep replaying those worlds but it never really gets boring because every time you will have a new ability which makes you progress faster or a new transformation (Shantae can dance-transform into different animals, which was an aspect of the game I really liked) and you can reach areas you didn't even know they existed in the level. The graphics are beautiful, the music is awesome and the game is quite humourous. The game just made me laugh and has a very nice atmosphere in overall.Shantae might be a bit on the easier side and it is not a long game, but personally I enjoyed that. Some people have the problem that the pile of games they bought and want to play gets bigger and bigger, because many games these days take up 80+ hours of your time. You can play through Shantae in around 8-10 hours however. It is not a long ride but you will probably have a great time.Ah yes, the DLC. I have to admit that I did not really test the DLC (the ultimate edition comes with all DLC for free), as most of it more or less means playing through the game and the same worlds....again, just with another character or other abilities and with a slightly altered story. For fans it is possibly thrilling and I will probably replay the game via DLC after some months or so - but for now I am fully happy with my Shantae experience as it is.

A switch must own!
If you like playstation or Saturn style 2D games, don’t pass this by. It’s quite challenging and I love the story. Music and animation is something thats rare in games today.

More Booklets to Your Games!!!
Shantae Genie Half-hero, The game is Great, exactly what you'd expect from a well published Video GameCompany that has always been making great Shantae Games. What's to say about this game in general?Everything from the ground up is well done, expect for the parts that a mere rare glitch happens in the gamenot to be concerned to much about it! i like Glitches. That being said, i enjoyed game's over all performance. Now for the Game's Hugest Difference, The Modes that it comes with fromPirate Queen's Quest, Friend to the End, Officer, Ninja, Beach Modes all DLC contents are well worth the gameplay. The Shantae Gallery of Arts is definitely amazing from many of the youngest and oldest fans that helped makethe game a reality.Keep it up!! I just can't wait for another brand new adventure Starring Shantae, Rottytops, Sky, Risky Boots andmany more amazing characters added to the game plot. One more thing, If Nintendo were to make many more Book Manuals for all Switch games? i would definitelybuy more of their products definitely!!! A Booklet Manual from the 80's is what made the game's sound muchmore interesting and better on how it sounded that you couldn't resist to go back and play the game and theart that game with it? was everything said to be hold. from the artwork inside the booklet manual to the gamethat represents it in a better way. And i still got my collection of Nes Manuals to this day. XD

Our half-genie heroine looking the best she has yet
Half-Genie Hero is something of a soft reboot for the Shantae series, at least in spirit - where Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse continually built off the original story, Half-Genie Hero feels like a bit of a reset and back to the basics. While I like the sprite work of the older games, the highly animated vector art appearance of this game is gorgeous, and the 2.5D approach to the backgrounds is excellent. Not to mention the soundtrack, which is some of Jake Kaufman's very finest work for the series - so many lush, catchy tunes! On a visual and auditory level, this is an easy 10/10.The game is very good and a good starting place for a new Shantae player (though I'd definitely urge them to check out the few that came before it, especially Pirate's Curse). However, I lament the more linear structure of its level design. The Shantae series is a Metroidvania at heart so I was a little disappointed when I first played this game years ago on the Wii U to find the more labyrinthine structure replaced with a more conventional, linear format. I like regular platformers too, but the problem is this makes exploring to find new things after acquiring powerups feel more like backtracking than exploring. I'm not opposed to having a quick warp in the form of Sky's bird Wrench, but using it as a main mode of travel as opposed to the areas between towns that existed in the older games creates a disconnect between the player and the world of the game, too. It would have been much better to have this added in as a feature later on, like after you find Wrench's whistle. Besides the structure of the game, it would have greatly helped the length as well as I feel this is a pretty breezy experience; I beat the game and found all the collectibles in roughly 7 hours, maybe even less. Now, I'd much rather an enjoyable 7 hours than a dragging-on-and-on 20, but I still left the game, both the first time I played it years ago and now again on the Switch, to be distinctively missing something. In spite of its simplicity of design and short length, however, I would still recommend buying Half-Genie Hero, especially if you already like Shantae. This edition is great too because it includes all the DLC that was released, which definitely pads out the time you'll be spending with it! I haven't played these all, but I played Slumber Party and Friends to the End all the way through and enjoyed both experiences a lot. Friends to the End in particular really restructures the gameplay and gets genuinely very challenging at times. They're also great just to see more character interactions, including some laugh out loud moments.

worthy of the "Ultimate" title
Before getting this version of the game I had already owned a Wii U copy of the Risky beats edition, a physical version of the game with the soundtrack, but I didn't getting Ultimate Edition because I love playing this game, and it's a bonus to get not only the content that was originally paid DLC in the standard version, but things that were exclusive to those who backed the game. The game is a very fun metroidvania like game with colourful visuals, humorous writing, replay ability and great music that complements each level this game has.If you already own the standard game with the DLC, you're not going to get out of it since the rest of the extras is just a bit cosmetic change. However I do recommend getting this regardless of not only owning a standard version, with or without the DLC, or as a starting point if you are new and curious to the series, plus the switch version helps you play it where ever you go.
