Muddy Mids, but otherwise pretty great
OPENING THE BOX of any Monster product, and you feel like you belong to a special exclusive club of "people in the know." Truly, their packaging aims to make you feel good and confident about dropping a few hundred dollars on headphones. This kind of packaging is nice - but more importantly, the phones themselves are super beautiful. They are sturdy well built gorgeous objects in general, regardless of function. For me, the fit was perfect "pretty good". I believe I have average size ears, and myself prefer "over the ear" cans. These DNA 2's are a little heavy, and allow a little more sound to leak than the Monster Inspiration . The cushion around the ear is a little harsh compared with the Inspiration, but maybe that is because these are new. Also, these aren't a low-profile headphone. They stick out way past the head on either side--no one is every going to just glance at you with out thinking "that person must love her/his music!" Looking at myself in the mirror, I don't think I looked very stylish. One side effect of how far they stick out from your head is that when the wind blows hard they make a whistling sound. The carrying case is as beautiful as anything else from Monster, but it is too small, and too soft. The 'phones fit inside, barely... Also, if one is spending $300 on headphones, you want a hard carrying case, just for your own peace of mind that you don't crush them in your bag or anything. And how do they function? Well, on FIRST LISTEN, they're not that great. The sound is cold and tinny. But the manual tells you to give them about 20 hours to "break in" and sound better. So I hooked them up to my iPod and left them running by themselves a couple of hours a day, a couple of days. After all that, I tested them.AFTER BEING BROKEN IN, they sounded incredible-- to a degree (keep reading). Close, crystalline in clarity, and warm. The bass line is crisp and you can really "feel" all the details, each strum or bowing of a bass instrument, the sound of a kick hitting a drum - everything in the bass is amazing. What detail! Literally, I caught myself gasping in amazement a few times. The highs are really crisp. These would never crackle with high treble sounds. Suddenly - if your hearing is up to it - you'll hear all these resonances and echoes in the music that only reside in the very high range. So good that, in fact, that I might suddenly become a FLAC file convert - all the shortcomings of mp3 became noticeable to me. I never thought I'd be able to tell the difference! One of the main problems I seem to have with expensive headphones is that the sound often seems to originate far away - even on closed-back phones. So while acoustic details maybe very present, you really have to focus hard to hear them, or crank up the volume to uncomfortable levels. But the Monster DNA 2.0 has a very close and present sound. Not to say they are tuned loudly, but that the music emerges so closely and cleanly that you don't need to crank the volume at all. I'm fine with 1/4 or 1/3 volume with these. (Though they do sound good cranked up!)Now comes the disappointment: the mids are pretty muddy.Let's make a metaphor: if these audio phones present a B+W photograph of the music, then the blacks (bass) are super black and solid. The whites (treble) would also be clear and transparent. But the mid-range grey of this photo...it would become quite grainy. Suddenly, the grains that make up these tones become revealed. If you pay close attention, the mids are even a little staticky. Now, on much music, one would be hard-pressed to even notice the graininess of the mids. If you listen to a lot of rock n' roll, or hip-hop/rap, electronic music etc, you won't notice - and odds are you'd be blown away by these `phones. But if you like classical music, movie soundtracks, jazz, and certain female singers whose voice resides in an smoky mid-range (Amy Winehouse), then you're better off with the Sennheiser Momentum or something else. These just won't do it for you. Shop around. That said, if you like Gangnam Style - and the like - these phones are for you. I think you won't be disappointed. But if you prefer the ilk of Winehouse's You Know I'm No Good - or Sibelius' Symphony 5 then you'd appreciate a different `phone. The difference is clear on these tracks. So if I were only to listen to U2, PSY, etc.., these would be fine. Better, they'd be my first choice. 5 stars. But if you're an OCD audiophile and pay close close attention to the music, and like classical, etc., then.. 2 stars.

Very disappointed. Held up well for a few week
Very disappointed. Held up well for a few week, then just fell apart. Ear pads are unrecognizable. Some blue foam protruding through the seams, plastic folding back. Very unhappy with them

Not built properly
Not that great.. Sounds good enough though..Build quality is garbage.. I received them with the ear pads ripped where I would assume there was glue to keep each piece together. So I took it upon myself to pretend like I worked for a nice headphone company and re-did the ear pads myself and stitched them. Way better now. Geez. For a $300 priced pair of headphones I would expect for them to be built properly and solid..See pics.

I was hoping Monster wouldn't crap out on the pads
The pads starting coming apart on after a few months of sparingly use in the office. I was hoping Monster wouldn't crap out on the pads, but they sure did!

Careful, these guys will tear to peices.
Other than the fact that the crappy pleather is glued on, and rips way you too easy, these guys sound great. I recommend a pocket amplifier. Probably wouldn't buy again.

Sound quality is decent but there are better headsets on the market for less with better build ...
Purchased in December 2015 and worn maybe 4 or 5 times and the cushion for the right ear cup has ripped exposing the foam padding. Sound quality is decent but there are better headsets on the market for less with better build quality.

Three Stars
Survived my tween only for six month. Warranty kicked in, but expected a little bi more durability.

Poor Make
My son and I have had several pairs of these headphones over the course of 4 years. Both of our recent purchases didn’t work out so well this time. The material that covers the foam over the ears separated from the inside of the ear and the foam is showing

It's OK, but not really recommended
From the first look, the product seemed perfect. It is very well designed from an aesthetic point of view, the earcups are comfortable. Most importantly the sound quality is truly outstanding and has a very balanced performance. Unlike the Monster I knew, the bass was punchy and crisp, and the highs are also amazing; so much clarity throughout all frequency bands, perfect for mixing and listening to multiple different genres. However the ear cups are poorly constructed and had split 3 months after purchase, and another 2 months later the headband cracked. Amazon's brilliant customer support had sent me a new pair straight away, so much thanks to that. However both of the cushions split again, no surprise, so I decided to stitch the pieces together, which was a lot of effort but it worked well and looks cooler than it was.Another thing to complain is the long-period wear comfort. After wearing it for a while, you will realise that it is uncomfortable. The triangular earcups are after all not very ergonomically designed. In addition, from the first glance, the design seemed futuristic and different, but after using it for a while I am getting slightly unsatisfied with the design. The use of material along with the overall design makes it feel cheap, and such expensive headphones deserve more from its look and feel.In conclusion, I don't really recommend it if you are wishing to take it around to places, or wear it for a long time. If you are looking for a pair of headphones for music production, there are better ones with the same price.

Fantastic headphones with brilliant sound quality
I purchased these for my son who has previously had 2 pairs of Beats that broke. Before having the Beats headphones he had a pair of Monster DNA on ear and wanted to return to Monster. These are over ear headphones, not on ear. But don't dismiss these headphones if you are used to on ear headphones. The sound quality is greater and according to my son better than Beats. He will certainly be sticking to Monster headphones in the future.
