This listing is for 1 Marimo Moss Ball. These are one of the most popular plants in the aquarium hobby, and they are widely kept as ornamental plants in jars in Japan. The moss balls generate oxygen and remove nitrates, improving water quality. This is definitely something different for your aquarium that you don't see often! If you wish, you can cut the moss ball into smaller pieces and the individual pieces will grow into separate moss balls. Marimo balls are regarded as good luck charms in Japan, and since they have been known to live to 200 years and beyond, they are often kept as family heirlooms. They are thought to symbolize close bonds between family members or close-knit friends, and are often passed down to children and grandchildren or nieces and nephews. By the time future generations receive the marimo balls, they will be larger in size and will continue to grow with each generation. Additionally, marimo balls are sometimes given to young children as "pets," since the only care they require is occasional water changes. Marimo balls are also thought to represent everlasting love; thus, they are often used as wedding table ornaments or even gifted at weddings. They are appropriate as a gift to the bride and groom, and smaller marimo balls make wonderful take-home gifts for the guests that will serve as mementos of the newly-weds' special day.

Appears to be synthetic, not real plants
Looks nice but they aren't real plants. They looked good but they felt "squeaky" when I did initial clean so I became suspicious. I pulled apart one, at first. Didn't look like plants still, so I subjected bits of them to (1) drying, (2) immersion in near boiling water and (3) immersion in hydrogen peroxide. The green tufts remained unchanged. Didn't bubble in the peroxide.I am glad I did a small order with this seller.

Extremely disappointed, do not recommend
Order was processed and shipped promptly. Received 5 marimo moss balls, all in fair condition. They're soaking in the pic after being cleaned and before being introduced into my aquarium. After reading reviews of some people's fish dying upon introduction to a tank, I decided to quarantine these alone in a small container using some aquarium water which was freshly cleaned. The next day I noticed there was a heavy algea coating the bottom of the container, water went from clear to light yellow in color and when picking up a ball I noticed it had a few small white worms on it and foul smell. Note, the container was away from windows and any source of natural light. After removing the worms and throughly rinsing/cleaning all of the balls I decided to take apart the smallest one and noticed while technically it is some type of moss, it's not an authentic marimo moss ball. Looks like it is a sheet of moss that has been glued to form a sphere as I don't see any stitching or thread holding it together. If this is the case this may explain why so many reviews mention sick, dying or dead fish. Highly disappointed and threw all of them in the trash. Ended up buying an authentic marimo moss ball at pet store. Unless you are certain an online vendor has authentic marimo moss balls, I highly recommend buying these in person from a reputable company so you can inspect and ensure you're getting the real deal. One star for quick processing/shipping.

Killed my sweet Betta Boy. We are heartbroken. Do not buy.
I purchased these based on the good reviews and they killed my fish. I cleaned them as instructed and when I put them in my tank they made it totally cloudy. I removed them and cleaned them AGAIN. I siphoned and cleaned my tank. My poor boy still died within days. (Pics show tank before balls and after) A horrifying death most likely from a flesh eating bacteria these horrible things brought into my tank. I will be writing the company but please, save your fish. My daughter and I are heartbroken. We loved our sweet Betta. I will be asking for a refund, but they cannot bring my fish back.

Great Aquatic Plants!
I never thought I would be in the market to buy balls of moss, but here I am. After acquiring a goldfish at our county fair back in August, which I figured would live all of about 2 days, I have spent nearly $200 on a suitable living space for him. Steven (that's his name) has a pretty decked out tank when it comes to decor and style. We purchased an led lighted tank, glow gravel, multiple artificial plants, and hiding places. At the time, Halloween decor for fish tanks was quite adorable so that's what Steven ended up with. At the beginning of January, I decided it was time to transition him over to a more sophisticated set up and wanted to incorporate live plants. I did my research trying to figure out what plants would hold up well with him, and what would grow quickly. Most of the online forums expressed that goldfish and live plants don't really mix, seeing as how goldfish eat EVERYTHING. I was determined to try however and went to our local pet store to scope out some sweet new plants. Let me first just say that his tank looked beautiful when I was done arranging everything. He even got a classy new house to hide in that looked like broken pots! Fast forward 4 days, waking up at 7am for work like normal, I walk out to feed the goldfish and cat, and BOOM. Half of the plants were floating at the top of the tank, and Steven, is innocently swimming around like nothing is wrong. After a little more research I decided to try and tie off the plants to the various decorations in his tank in hopes of salvaging some of them. That worked for about 5 more days until he realized he could just rip them apart and eat them. I was pretty disappointed but not discouraged that I could truly find a live plant source for Steven to enjoy, without eating. I read online that moss stands up pretty well against gold fish and grows relatively quickly. I was looking for something to make a moss wall in his tank when I stumbled upon these interesting looking Moss Balls. I figured I'd give it a shot to add some spunk in his tank that he could roll around and pick at but that would stay at the bottom of the tank. It arrived yesterday morning and was well packaged. The container was wet but not saturated and the moss was a nice vibrant green. It even came with two extra small moss balls which was a nice surprise. I followed the directions, rinsed them with tap water and put them in his tank. The two smaller balls sank immediately and looked really cool. The large ball stayed at the top of the surface most of the evening however it ended up floating to the bottom sometime over night. The directions say that the moss does not reach its full size until 2 days after submerging in so i'm excited to see how much more it grows. Its already huge and Steven seems to enjoy nudging it around. I'm probably going to end up getting a larger tank this spring and buying Steven a few friends as I feel he gets lonely, but when I do, I'll definitely be buying more plants through Aquatic Arts. Their customer service has been spot on and I'm very happy with the Moss Balls that were sent out through Amazon!!

Heathy and beautiful!
I was so beyond excited to receive my Marimo Aquarium Betta Fish Balls!!! They came in a great condition, wet enough to survive the shipping. A little bit smaller than expected (I was expecting 3 balls similar in size like bigger one on my photo) but seller included 1 extra ball (Thank you!). Marimo balls were packaged very well in a plastic container ( and shipping box of course) with all the instructions of what to do before introducing them to your aquarium. These green balls don’t require any special treatment or fertilizer. Our Betta fish loves them and sometimes I find him playing with them by pushing them with his nose or nibble on them a little as well as resting on them too. Marimo balls arrived green and healthy, different in size (please see the pictures). Overall I am very happy with the purchase and will definitely order more in a future. Not only our Betta fish loves them and it’s so easy to take care of them. They also bring such a nice pop of color to our aquarium. I take them out from our aquarium every few weeks to gently wash them in a treated aquarium water and give them a little squeeze and up they go back to the aquarium.

Don't float, they just sink.
A little disapointed. I have all 4 in there and my betta doesn't care for them so far, and they don't float, as you can see in the picture.
