Swedish Style AFO by Alpha Medical, Padded Calf Ankle Foot Orthosis, Foot Drop Brace L1930 (L/XL Right)

I ordered both the left and right foot at the same time from the same vendor, yet they came from two different locations and were shipped differently (one came to the Amazon locker, the other came in the USPS regular mail). Since we didn't know it was being brought to the front door by the mailman, we didn't know we had to be home. Fortunately, we were. That was an unpleasant surprise.You should know that driving is unsafe with the AFOs on. You can't press the pedals correctly since the AFO keeps you from pointing your toes down. Depending on your medical condition, either put the AFOs on when you arrive at your destination, or have someone else drive you.But the AFO itself works great and I haven't fallen with them on. But don't get overconfident!

I like that these braces are light as a feather. I have had custom made AFO's in the past and they were big and bulky, however, being professionally made - and after buying and experiencing these - I can see, by far, the benefits of custom made braces. I had to do some filing with a dremmel tool in the heal space because it cut into my heal. I felt like I needed a much bigger size than XL ( wear size 8.5 medium and have calf sizes of 21"), but didn't see anything bigger available. For the price, they're ok, but I wouldn't get them if you have large calves. Custom braces also have an ankle strap and these do not. That makes a difference in my confidence and ability to walk. I have charcot-marie-tooth and foot drop.

I bought this for my husband who has periodic episodes of foot drop. This brace does fit inside his shoes, but he finds it very uncomfortable, and so he tried to wear it just around the house to support his foot. He said it's incredibly slippery on the sole so you have to wear socks over the top so you don't slip and break your neck. He also said that it needs another elastic band strap around the instep to help hold it in place - it slides around otherwise - because he's not using it inside his shoes. It DOES support his foot and keeps the foot at the correct angle, but he's not thrilled with it. He's worn it a couple of times but we're going to try a different style to see if there is something better and keep this one for good measure.

I have MS and have struggled for years with a weak right leg and drop foot. I have had expensive custom orthotics as well as over the counter braces in an attempt to ease my walking challenges. I ran across this swedish afo by alpha medical on Amazon, and although it was incredibly inexpensive, it seemed to have the features I was looking for and thought it would be worth a try. This afo is incredible, far better than even the $600 custom one that was made for me. I have a size 11 shoe and the L/X L fits my shoe and calf perfectly with no modification. If you struggle with drop foot give this unit a try. At this price point you cannot go wrong!

I would give this item five stars for its comfort, however, it arrived without the necessary velcro that attaches the padded wrapping around the calf. I had to go to the store to buy velcro to apply so that it could be worn. Now that the velcro is affixed it's very comfortable, and my husband would purchase again with the hope that it would arrive with the needed velcro.

I have a medical problem with my lower legs and my feet. I had to order both left and right braces. They are very comfortable to wear all day. They help keep me from falling to the ground. They work well with my walking crutches. They are much more better than the metal ones for me. I'm very happy with the product.

Orthopedic surgeon recommended me wearing one of these for awhile. This was only brand that would work in men’s size 15. Feels thin but didn’t break. Padding is awkward with strap being too long without a second Velcro strip so needed to be shortened. Plastic was a little sharp on back of ankle but after some cloth tape it was fine. It’s in expensive, arrived quickly and was as described. Good product for short term use

This brace was so good at helping me with my moderate foot drop that I bought a second one. It is virtually identical to one I was offered at the doctor's office, but at 1/10 the price. It needed a little customization to remove some bits of sharp plastic and to fit well in my narrow shoes, but that will be the case with anything like this. Overall, very satisfied.
