CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3 B+ (B Plus) Ultimate Starter Kit (32 GB Edition, Clear Case)

Update: Below I wrote about how 4 out of the 8 Pi' kits we bought went bad. Contacted Canakit and they said they would exchange them with either Pi 3B+ or if we preferred Pi 3 B's instead. That is a great (and unexpected) gesture from them and for that I am bumping this review up. Like I said in the original review below we've never had any problems with Pi's from Canakit so my guess is it could have been just bad luck.I bought 8 of these for a class being taught. On the first day, one of the PI's refused to boot out of the box. The green light would never blink as if the SD card was not inserted (it was). I had some spares PI's luckily and let the student use that one (booted the same SD card with same power supply and it worked fine). The next day, the same thing happened to another student. Then on the 5th day of the class it happened to two other students. I had to make a run to the local Micro Center to buy more PI's.So out of 4 dead PI's 2 of them died before we had even wired them up with sensors. In otherwords... we didn't break them.Also during the week we were teaching the students about I2C sensors and one of the students could not get their sensors to work. Everything was wired right so I broke out the oscilloscope and found that the wire for the clock line was not working. The wire failed a simple continuity test.We bought these kits so the students could keep them after the 2-week class was over but because so many failed I suspect that the others would as well. I replaced all of them with the ones I bought from Micro Center and I had to eat the costs.I used PI's from CanaKits last year for a class and we had no problems whatsoever. Everything worked great. After this disaster, I don't think I will buy from CanaKit or Amazon again. Next year I'll buy straight from Raspberry Pi and buy the wire and leds myself.

I got this to play around with a lot of different things. I wanted to learn GPIO and coding for it. I wanted to teach my kids how to code. I wanted to better myself at Python. I wanted a network wide ad blocker. I wanted a retro gaming platform.Well, the Raspberry Pi does all of that and more!!!I was happy with the quality of this Cana Kit. It was easy to put together and set up. There is some hand holding in getting Raspbian installed, and a quick tutorial to get started, then after that it's a playground of learning. You get out as much as you put in.If you want to tinker around with computers, Linux, Programming, or just want a network monitor or ad blocker, this is great!!! Literally the sky is the limit with Raspberry Pis, and this kit is a great place to start. Affordable, delivered quickly, nicely made... what's not to love. I HIGHLY recommend this kit.

Neat little package with everything you need to get you up and running in just a few minutes. Two things I wish could be fixed: The included instructions should show how to connect the GPIO breakout board to the Pi and the breadboard. It seems simple enough, but there are about four different ways you can attach the ribbon cable. Two work and only one is "correct." Also, there should be versions of the example wiring diagrams that show how to do the wiring with the breakout board. I burned out four LEDs trying to get the circuit correct. Fortunately the kit comes with enough LEDs that I still have four left.

It was a nice surprise when I openned this package to find a well thought out and documented kit. This is much more than just a box of parts. Every item in the kit is clearly marked and well packed. The kit contains all the key elements you need to get started. The instructions and documentation are clear and concise. The little information add-ons such as GPIO pinout are a really helpful touch. This kit is a GREAT VALUE, especially for somone starting out. I highly recommend this!

One of the most complete kits I have ever had the pleasure of receiving. The addition of the in-line on/off switch into the box made my day - I hate plugging and unplugging connectors as these eventually become unreliable and break. Maybe consider adding a $2 PIR sensor in the future? Well done.

When I was a kid, we used to buy electronic project kits from Radio Shack. (Yes, I'm showing my age a little bit.) I'm glad stuff like this is around because I learned a ton of stuff about electronics when I was a kid from those kits. This is, in every way, a full-blown computer! The use-cases are endless and whether you're more into software or hardware, there are projects for virtually any age range and complexity! I would in fact recommend buying more than one -- sometimes, you want to work on more than one project at a time. Definitely ideal for that!

This is a great option for starting a Raspberry Pi development system. Plenty of parts to play with, and a fully working RPi complete with case, heat sinks and a 32GB memory card.The mini USB power switch didn't work, but the company followed up with me and rushed a replacement right away at no charge!My only minor complaint is that the push button switches don't engage well into the protoboard. I found that by flattening the leads with a small needle nose plier, they become long enough to seat.Overall this is a great kit and Canakit will take care of you if the are any issues!

Semi assembled the bare essentials, HDMI to TV, cable provided, you will need a keyboard and mouse (wired or wireless) along with an Internet connection again Wired or wireless. Make sure you buy Raspberry Pi For Dummies 3rd Edition. I have sense been to Barnes and Nobel a few time and purchased a couple of good books on the Raspberry Pi, make sure they cover version 3. This is a good deal for your first Pi. Have fun!
