DK Eyewitness Back Roads Germany (Travel Guide) Paperback – March 21, 2017

Good information, photos and paper quality.

Great book--and one of the better ones I've found. We loved the photos, suggested drives, food/eating suggestions, regional info, and suggestions for walking tours. My husband and I recently tagged along on an 11-day drive from Berlin to Frankfurt via Quedlinburg, Bamberg, Weimar, and Wurzburg. Our trip was already planned by his parents. So I bought this book mostly to fill gaps for myself and think about our own possible trips in the future. But my in-laws loved it, too, and we worked in many of its suggestions quite easily on the spur of the moment. They loved the spontaneity and the finding out-of-the-way surprises. And the concise section on international road signs, menu "decoding," and German phrases for drivers came in handy. This is a thin volume that fits well into the back of a car pocket and is sturdy enough to stand up to much handling. That said, it's pretty heavy, compared to other guides, but this is due to durable covers and glossy photo paper. It's a lovely book. And a week after our return, I'm still perusing, dreaming, and sharing our travels with others. Buy it and be glad!

I'm very pleased with the product I ordered. The quality of the book matched its description and even arrived sooner than expected. I am a bit disappointed that the map in the back was torn out, but everything else was pretty good.

I had been to Germany a few times. I wish I had read this book prior to my trips. There are so many gems in it which is not that famous. Read this book in details before you plan a trip to Germany. Highly recommended.

Great book to plot a trip by. Lot of great info on many, many small towns. We are driving for 5 weeks through Germany and a lot of our plans are based upon this book.

We spent a lot to time with Back Roads Germany in planning our road trip through Germany. During the trip we realized that using this book as a planning guide was a big mistake. Backroads? The majority of the places turned out to be very crowded even in October. Most of the sites listed are the same ones all the tour buses frequent. If you're interested in that kind of thing, take a tour bus and forget driving.

This book was just what I needed as I was going to spend 2 weeks driving around Germany with my brand new "European Delivery" car.The routes are planned for a much slower pace than we wanted to go, but it gives enough detail that we could plan our own route at our own pace.

We have just returned from a 18 day trip to Germany. We stayed in the Bavaria part and this book is a must. The maps were easy to read and the description of the places to go were accurate. We will never return to Germany without it. We had other books but this one wound up being the one we took everyday.

This guide uses good quality maps, pictures and text to guide you through Germany's back roads via 25 carefully researched routes. Having travelled some of the suggested routes it's a really useful book that will chart plenty of places of interest, treat you to spectacular scenery, introduce you to restaurants you might otherwise miss and keep you off the Autobahn.

Whilst this book has plenty of ideas on routes, the detail of the route is not clear and it would take a bit of planning with the supplied map to get a clear understanding of where to go. For example, road numbers are not always quoted in the directions.

Excellent book. I haven't used it on the road yet but having road tested the "France" version I'm confident it will be just as good. Good size for the car and full of information to enhance the holiday.

Combined with the usual Eyewitness Germany guide this will give you everything you need for seeing Germany. The suggestions for less commonly known spots are helpful. I would certainly recommend this for anyone driving around Germany.

Love to travel all these routes - so many routes - so little time!
