Kick Ash Basket for The Kamdo Joe (Steel, Big Joe)

2nd year into using my Joe, and never got the super high heat for searing steaks, or doing pizzas. This is the missing link. Creates more surface area, and greater ventilation - resulting in higher heat. Makes for easy clean up, and easily allows hitting the 750 to 900 degree temps. Downside is hard to do slow and go without almost shutting down vents completely. So I go back to stock grate when smoking, and use the basket when I'm looking for the higher grilling temps. Sturdy build, and should have lasting power. Clean and store when not using, so not in the elements when not being used. Pricey, but to be expected with all Joe/Green accessories.

This is a well built item that adds functionality to the Kamado Joe. I have only used it once so far, but I can say that using the basket definitely makes re-using in-burnt charcoal chunks easier -- all you have to do is shake off the ashes. You can do this inside the cooker or remove it to shake it off. Taking it out means removing the accessory ring -- not a big deal (maybe it can be removed without this step). But the thing that I like the most is the improved airflow that the basket affords. I could get up to higher temperatures more quickly and I thought that the burn was more uniform. It have a KJ "Classic", and the basket fit perfectly.

It is a bit pricey, but high quality construction. It makes cleanout simple and so much less messy. Just give the bucket a shake and the ash falls out into the cleanout tray. Add more lump and good to go for another cook! Seems to get excellent air flow. The only slight negative is that the bucket sits below the divide and conquer system, which needs to be removed before the bucket can be shaken. Just a minor inconvenience compared to the improvement in cleanout!!

I find the basket works much better than no basket. It seems easier to control the heat and deal with the ashes from the charcoal. It almost makes you wonder why KJ doesn't include in the package. Of course the reason is they want to sell more and more accessories. I love my KJ Big Joe II, but it is expensive as are all the accessories. But I wouldn't give it up and, if you can afford it, its great for Master Grillers who love gadgets and fooling with all the bells and whistles on the KJ.

Install is easy and it does make charcoal mgmnt easier but it can be tricky to remove from my Knamado Joe Classic without dislodging the retainer ring. I still am not clear if i need the cast iron charcoal grate T thr bottom.Its great quality and very well made

I seriously love this thing. Having the Kick Ash in my grill has not only made cleanup super easy it has also improved my airflow. Having this has prevented those pesky ash buildups and has helped in keeping my temps consistent for long hours. My only complaint is that the asking price is quite high although not as high as KJ’s first party basket. Overall great buy and I’m glad I got it.

Fits the Big Joe 2 perfectly.

When I got my Joe Jr, I immediately replaced the OEM plate in the fire box with a grid-like plate, and that was an improvement.But I recently replaced that plate with this basket, and the difference is greater still. It's so easy to shake out loose ashes, and I feel the air flow is even better, as my fires are lighting quicker and more evenly.If you have a Joe Jr, don't think twice, buy this.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but this is worth it. I know it is just a simple basket, but it is a game change for my Akorn grill. My grill doesn't normally allow enough air flow around the sides and I couldn't get proper searing temps. This completely solves my issue and makes cleaning and coal changes sooo much easier. It's heavy duty stainless and should easily last me a lifetime.
