Like Vintage Wine!
Unlike most other series which just seem to run out of steam, this one just gets better and better as it improves with age!Caught the odd episode on TV some years back and enjoyed them at the time. Then, having a bit more time available recently, started watching from start on Netflix, continued to enjoy and got more engrossed with each episode. The only problem was that Netflix stopped at the end of series 3. Unable to wait on the chance that they would eventually show more, I ended up buying this pack from Amazon! Now well into series 5, I still can't get enough of this absolutely brilliant production. It just seems to meet all my requirements for enjoyable, funny, relaxing viewing. The quality of acting is excellent. The main protagonists are a real treat and the supporting cast first class. Changes to personnel have been handled sensitively and the story lines have been varied throughout, generating a range of emotions in the viewer. And the quality of the filming leaves nothing to be desired! If there is no series 6, I will force myself to watch the existing 5 series once, or twice, or, perhaps, even more times.

A bit of Cornish fun.
Some of the best comedy characters are the ones who say exactly what they're thinking without regard for the social niceties of sparing others' feelings. Sheldon in The Big Bang is a prime example. Another is Doc Martin (Martin Clunes). Brought up in a loveless household by selfish parents he has never really learned how others think or feel despite his enormous intellect. A talented surgeon, he is suddenly stricken by a blood phobia and is forced to pursue a new career as a GP. He decamps to Cornwall where he spent the happiest times of his childhood with his beloved Auntie Joan (Stephanie Cole). There he meets and falls in love with village schoolteacher Louisa Glasson (Caroline Catz). Each series charts the waxing and waning of his relationship with Miss Glasson as she tries to reconcile her feelings for the Doc with his inability to break out of the straitjacket of his own nature. All the while the Doc is also having to deal with various medical conundrums (don't pull me up on this plural until you've perused the many learned and hilarious debates on its correctness or otherwise). Most of these are caused by the villagers' quirky approach to life. This could have been patronising but the show manages to avoid depicting the Cornish residents as too rustic. Each episode normally consists of at least one medical puzzle, a piece of the ongoing love story and a subplot concerning one or more of the main supporting characters. All are consistently high quality, I can't remember ever being bored by Doc Martin. Clunes is superb, All I knew him before for was Men Behaving Badly. This character is light years away from that. He plays the curmudgeonly Doc perfectly and he is extremely convincing in the way he portrays a GP at work. Caroline Catz strikes a nice balance between feisty feminist and lovestruck lady stricken by doubt and insecurity. All the supporting actors do an excellent job at depicting life in the tiny Cornish village.Doc Martin is a comfortable good humoured show. There's nothing in it that would offend your Granny but it is entertaining enough to pull you in and keep you hooked. Its a 'break open a bottle of wine and settle down with a few episodes on a rainy Sunday afternoon' kind of a show. We need more like this. This box set contains all the episodes plus a few extras. Sadly, it doesn't have the Christmas special. It's still great value though and well worth the purchase. Savour the Doc, I hear that there is another Christmas special and a sixth series then that will be it. I'm sure he'll get a good send off.

Wonderful stuff .
I didn't used to watch Doc Martin until series 7 and I only started watching because it was set in beautiful Cornwall , which I love and I always spend my holidays there - wish I could spend my life there ! I immediately fell in love with the series and realised what a treat I had been missing all those years . I was thrilled to find all the previous series on DVD and now have them all . I love the rude and grumpy Doc and Martin Clunes is brilliant , so too is the lovely Caroline Catz as long suffering Louisa . All of the characters are adorable and the acting is wonderful, the Cornish accents are delicious and not over done . The stories are very absorbing and just like life , are a mixture of laughter and tears . Of course the location is absolutely heavenly . The whole thing is a recipe for pure magic . It is a feel good series and always makes me feel better , no matter how bad things get .

I always knew I would enjoy this series but because it was on a commercial ...
I always knew I would enjoy this series but because it was on a commercial station I wouldn't watch it and now I can, in fact the whole family are enjoying the Doc Martin series even if he is a tosser. Whimsical Cornwall is a much better place to live in than the real thing though because in real Cornwall most of the cottages have gone to holiday/second homes and the locals therefore can't afford to live in 'their' village. Because of this the villages actually die, they might look pretty but the school has shut because there are no children living full time in the village, the pub survives on its summer trade, the shops dwindle to one under stocked community shop due to the bloody holiday makers bringing down their own food. It's a crime what has happened to the picture perfect villages of Cornwall and Devon. Rant over, the series is lovely...

Definitely a show not to miss.
I am New to Doc Martin, even though it has been going for many years. I saw my first episode On YouTube and thought, this is different. Just had to have more on DVS, so I purchased this box set, which at less than £14 was really good value. I am starting season 5 now and I have no complaints about the quality of the playback or case. Doc Martin, as a character, is a one off. Most of the time it's hard to like him, but then something slips through his tough exterior, a glimpse of vulnerability, that makes him human, just like the rest of us. And the humour makes the series really fun to watch. All the characters are good and well played, and the plots are always interesting. No way could I give it less than 5 stars.

Maravillosa.
He visto varias veces las cinco primeras temporadas de esta serie y puedo decir que me ha encantado. La quinta temporada es sencillamente una obra maestra. Para quien se quiera divertir y, no necesite sexo en una serie, es una opción inigualable.

alittle gem
I consider the annoying character of Dr Martin one of the funniest in the history of TV shows. It is a matter of taste, but I recommend this mildly amusing story set in Cornwall (for what I remember) a little gem.

Erstklassig!!!!!!
