Kick Ash Basket for The Big Green Egg (Steel, Small)

OK I've waited a month or so before I submitted this review. I was gonna give the Kick Ash basket 5 starts, and I rarely give 5 stars, so I let the honeymoon be over, now that I'm used to it. Well as you can see, I'm still giving the Original Kiss Ash Basket 5 stars. It is a perfect must have accessory for your Big Green Egg, Kamodo Joe, Primo or any other ceramic they make one to fit. Mine fits perfectly in my large BGE. I removed the bottom cast iron coal grate and the airflow I get greatly improves my coal startup times and overall temp control. No holes to get clogged up with ash. Actually its not so much ash, as its's little bits of charcoal that restrict the holes. With the kick ash they don't. I simply fill up that Kick Ash basket and seems to be just the right amount of lump charcoal. It may be my imagination, or just the quality of the awesome FOGO charcoal I use, but I swear the Kick Ash makes my lump charcoal last longer. Once completely cool (next DAY for my Big Green Egg), take out the basket shake it over your garden or stone drive way and your good for the next cook. You'l be amazed at the small amount of ash, since the combustion process is so much more efficient with the basket. I think you will like this. VERY well crafted piece and good looking piece of stainless steel with quality stainless steel welds. Clearly a high quality with attention to detail. IMHO a must have accessory.

I inherited a Medium BGE, and the iron charcoal holder was pretty corroded and falling apart due to years of neglect.I watched videos on how to use the BGE, and noticed how much time it took to get it back up and ready to repurpose the old lump charcoal.I noticed this basket in another youtube video and knew it was a perfect replacement/upgrade to the old iron piece.I have a Weber Kettle, and have something similar for it (the Slow 'n Sear). As a creature of convenience and ease it was an instant purchase and now sits happily in my BGE.I accidentally ordered the large from Prime (because I didn't know what size my grill was). I returned and bought the medium non-prime from Kick Ash (still on Amazon though), and they sent hot handling gloves, a koozie, and a sticker. So that was a nice touch and glad to know I'm supporting a family owned business.

I purchased this as a birthday gift for my husband who has SO many egg-cessories for his Big Green Egg... I wasn't sure what was left to get. He has quickly moved this up the list to his top 3 must haves/recommendations! He says it makes it much easier to use the smoker (prepping, cleaning, etc). I wasn't sure about spending so much for something so seemingly simple, but I wasn't able to find any comparable product out there and he was beyond thrilled with the gift...and he is not easy to shop for! Definitely a great gift for anyone with a Big Green Egg or other similar smoker!

I am a new egg owner and I had the misfortune of cooking once without cleaning out the ash from the previous cook. I wont make that mistake again. I have learned it is a good idea to clean out the pit after each cook on the BGE. This is to ensure proper airflow and in turn better temperature control. A buddy told me about this basket. I tried it and it made a big difference. I recommend this basket to all egg owners. I think its a 'must have'. Before I cook, I just pull this basket out, shake the cold basket over a trash can. I then use a small shop vac to clean out the ash in the fire box. drop this basket back in place, Add more lump charcoal as needed and I am ready to light the egg again. A great accessory. Actually its another item that should have been part of the original design. (in my opinion) ;-) Don't hesitate, get one of these.

The best egg accessory EVER! Since we began using this, we have had zero issues with consistent airflow. Use the stock grate as a frisbee and buy this...heavy construction, perfect fit, and should come with every egg!

I have found this basket to be an important part of my Big Green Egg. Not only has this basket allowed me to utilize my lump charcoal more efficiently, my cooks are consistently hotter as a result of better air flow. If you are a BGE owner this is a must have.

I don't usually write reviews for stuff on Amazon, but this thing is fantastic. No more clogged air vents in the bottom grill. WAAAYYY more oxygen getting to my fire. Cut the heat up times for my BGE in half (no joke) and the front vent is way more predictable at controlling internal temps. AND clean up is now a breeze as I can pull all the remaining unburned charcoal out in one quick motion and get my shop vac down to suck up all the ash. Definitely the best upgrade I've ever purchased for my egg.

LOVE IT!! I always like to start cooking with the best air flow Now, I walk out to the egg with my shop vac, lift the basket out, shake over garbage can a bit, vacuum inside of egg and put it back. Takes about 3-4 minutes to start cooking with no ash in the egg.
