Awesome replacement for the Point Machine

I had this machine in my cruise cabin on a weeklong cruise, and I used it several times a day. Although the brew is similar in quality to the Nespresso I own, this machine is a monster in comparison. The gallon-size tank alone is a distinguishing factor because you can make a LOT of cups before you need to refill it. As with the Nespresso, you have two cups sizes -- espresso and lungo (maybe twice the size of espresso). You won't get a full-size American-style cup the way the Keurig system will. This is strictly an espresso, lungo, and (manual) cappuccino machine. The coffee is expressed through pods using high-pressure water/steam.The machine tends to spray near the end, and it can get a little messy. I prefer to slide the plate over from the steam side and put a lungo cup on it. (I think the plate is designed for the smaller espresso size but the larger cups fit.) If you store your cups upside down on the top, they are already warmed when you fill them. I think that's because the tank in standby is always slightly heated, and it rises to the top.This machine is large, so make sure you have room for it. Also factor in the price of the Lavazza pods -- you will be wedded to that brand. This is a gorgeous machine that makes great-tasting coffee. Nespresso is its nearest competitor. It's not a true espresso machine in that you don't use your own grounds and tamp them into a holder, but it's one of the best, no mess options out there.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann
