Lomanco2000 Mill Power Roof Ventilator

Lightweight but inefficient and underpowered
First, one star off "on principle": as of this writing (and more importantly, as of my ordering) the Amazon description says>From the Manufacturer>The LomanCool 2000H comes complete with a built in thermostat and humidistatWell, maybe SOME version of this fan comes with a humidistat but this one definitely does not; it includes a thermostat only. They will sell you a humidistat (another $40) but it does not come with one. One star off for misleading advertising.Pros and cons:1. This is a very underpowered unit (800 CFM) and they do not make it particularly easy for you to figure that fact out (no, the "2000" in the product name has nothing to do with any of its specifications or performance). That makes it one of the weaker line-powered units, although still many times more powerful than the gaggle of solar-powered units making outrageous claims about coverage or cubic feet per minute air movement. More to the point, it pulls 374 watts but only puts out 75 watts of motor power, so very low efficiency (20% - by comparison, some of those solar fans, while perhaps misleading on their own regarding what they can accomplish, have remarkable efficiencies of 75%). Even compared to its line-powered competitors, 20% is pretty poor: the cheapest unit I found at Home Depot, about the same price as the Lomanco (but galvanized steel), was 1,200 CFM with considerably lower power requirements - more efficient both in terms of air moved and electricity consumed.2. It is very quiet. Not as quiet as the 15 watt (!!!) solar powered unit it replaced, but then that one moved so little air I couldn't even tell if it was doing anything.3. The aluminum is fabulous. Light, rustproof, easy to carry and install. I have it mounted in the top of a greenhouse and had to cut the plate to slide in between the greenhouse's aluminum struts - the previous fan was steel and a bear to cut, while a fine-tooth jigsaw sliced right through the Lomanco, and I could have probably just used tin snips. With only some aluminum struts carrying the weight dangling directly over my head, the light weight is a blessing in every way.If I could I would rate it at 3-1/2 stars, but the low amount of air moved (and the fact that they make it so hard to even figure that out, as if they deliberately want people to think that the "2000" is the CFM, which frankly would be more in line with the power it draws) means that if I have to round to a whole star, that has to be three.

Very good USA-made Attic Fan
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY Chinese-made fans or fan-motors like those sold at the big-box hardware places. They quickly fail and have been known to cause fires due to poor or no elec-motor thermal protection.I did quite a bit of research trying to find an American made unit that wasn't $400. The Lomanco seemed to be the best value I could find, and had a USA-made motor with THERMAL PROTECTION and readily-available replacement attic-fan parts. All-alum unit is rust-proof and installed easily as a replacement for the home-depot one that failed after just a year in So. Calif heat. The Lomanco is much quieter and smoother that the old fan, and just better build quality. I was so impressed, I bought a replacement motor just to have, in case they switch to Chinese motors like everybody else! And additionally, if that motor does have to be replaced, it's just three screws holding the dome to access it. Way easier than the old one.Note: The first fan that arrived was an open-box unit that had obviously been installed then returned. Amazon was very good with sending UPS to pick up the fan and even sending a new fan before the return was picked up ! That's why I love Amazon.com!

Works great on the roof of my two car garage
Great fan. I installed this in my two car garage which has open rafters. Before this fan my garage just had a single gable vent and would heat up because the air inside wasnt being circulated enough. This fan didnt have the highest cfm of fans this price ranges but has worked great for my needs and I felt it was the best quality fan for the cost. I really like the design of the "hood" and how it was much larger than the other fans and this fan has a aluminum screen that will stop birds/bats and mice.

I'm sure it will suck as described
Although I haven't installed this fan yet, I'm sure it will suck as described. My complaint, is my own lack of understanding. The manufactures comment that humidity control is a necessary concern, and the insistence that the fan will control this, is misleading. They seem to be describing a different model (I assume). The model they are writing about is the 2000H, you end up buying the 2000 MILL. If this isn't the case, then the manufacture is out and out lying. This model does not come on with excessive humidity. The instructions indicate you can install a separate humidistat. Well, I can do that for any fan.If I realised this before, I would have bought a higher rated unit.

Just the right size
Purchased this fan because I had an aluminum roof put on and the normal ones which are steel would not work because of dissimilar metals. I had a 1350CFM fan on the old roof and it seemed to work fine. After some research I determined that 800CFM might be a better choice. The 800CFM moves the amount of air found in a small room every minute. It is better to move a little less air than over vent. Pulling too much air from the top of the roof can cause air conditioned air to be drawn up thru the ceiling because most homes have a certain amount of leakage thru wall plates and other areas that are not air tight. Bigger is not always better.
