Beautiful, bright, & lovely.
These are very cool lights. They have a wide range of colors to choose from, ranging from very bright white to very dim red, and every color in-between. The brightest light, the white, can easily provide an easy path down a hall, or even illuminate a kitchen for a night snack. They are very decorative, hold a long, lasting charge, and are light. You have to hold them upside down to turn them off, which is very easy. However, you can turn them back on if you flip them upright too fast, so be mindful of that little snag.I bought one set for now, but I plan to buy another for a patio.Excellent product. I'm very, very pleased.

Cool lights
Pretty cool lights. The charging station is nice and they give off some cool colors. Three stars is because one of the lights after being fully charged only stays on half as long as the other one. Its like the battery drains twice as quick than the other light. Otherwise I really like these out on the patio late at night after a few beers. Very cool!

Look for something better!
I was pretty disappointed in these, especially for the price. Overall, the look is best described as "cheap". The "metal" base is poorly painted plastic. The lights themselves feel like flimsy plastic in the hand. The mechanism to change colors or shut off the lights is extremely touchy. I'm surprised that this is a product that Philips would actually put their name on given the high-quality nature of their other products. I would return these, but the packaging accidently got taken out with the trash.

A non-apologetic, modern take on the pillar candle
I like these. They are perfect for ambience or as a table centerpiece. They are best thought of as a modern, non-apologetic take on a decorative pillar candle. The lighting level is similar to a real candle (pillar or a votive in a holder). The lamps are fully sealed and approved for use in damp locations, but I wouldn't recommend taking them diving in the pool. The RGB LED colors include red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, magenta, plus white and the option of cross-fade cycling (which takes about 20 seconds to fade through all the colors). White is neither warm nor cool, but just white. Yellow is fairly close to candlelight. It is certainly more convincing than typical orange/amber LED electronic votives. The gradual color cycling effect is restful on the eyes, almost as much as a fireplace is to look at. Typical of other Philips lamps, the colors are very well mixed.Turning on or selecting a color is as simple as tilting from vertical to horizontal and back. Turning off requires holding the lamp inverted for at least two seconds. At that point returning to vertical too slowly may turn the lamp back on. The lamps do not turn off automatically when charging, which seems like an minor oversight.Per the manual, the initial charge requires two back-to-back 10 hour charing sessions. After that, subsequent charges take 10 hours. The charging base shuts off automatically, so it's safe to leave the lamps docked in the charger for storage without concern of wearing the batteries due to overcharging.Lamps are spec'd to run from 4h to 10h depending on color selected. In testing on red and green, my lamps ran for 16+ hours.Pros:+ A modern look all its own+ Sealed lamps with no fiddly parts+ Inductive charging base+ Excellent battery life+ Scent free and much safer than a real candleCons:- Looks like an upside down plastic drinking cup- Rechargeable batteries are not user replaceable- No candlelight emulation mode (warm white + flicker)- May not be bright enough for some applications- Semi-automatic charger requires pushing a "charge" button to start timed chargeI would recommend these to a friend, and they'd make a thoughtful gift.

Disappointing
These are so pretty in the picture, but they are cheap plastic and small in real life. Disappointing.

Awesome night light for kids
Update 3: Feb 2016. Still working great. I read a few reviews that say they're filmsy, cheap looking, and hard to use. I disagree unless Philips changed the product. These are solid in construction. My son dropped one on the hardwood floors. Still works great and has no cracks or dents. Yes, the charging plate is painted plastic but unless you're staring directly at the charging plate within about 10 inches you can't tell. As for hard to use, my son has been able to use these successfully for about a year. He's two and a half now. See first review for easy instructions. It's really no that hard. :)Update 2:Nearly two years later and these are still going strong. My son even dropped one while he was playing with it. It got knocked around a bit and we can hear something rattling in there, but despite that it still works perfectly! It seems to keep its charge for the same amount of time as it did straight from the box.Update:8 months later and we still love them. As stated in the original review, we use these as night lights in our son's room. We've been using one every night for the last 8 months, alternating the lamp each night. They're still holding a charge and haven't shown any other signs of wear. I forgot to put one back on the base in the morning and we found out that they will hold a charge for about 20 hours. We keep it on green during the night (about 10 hours) so it's not too bright for our son, and then switch to white at 5am when we wake him up for his first diaper change/bottle of the day, but they will slowly turn pink (after about 12-14 hours) to red as the batteries die around 20 hours.Original Review:We got these to use as night lights in my son's room. I took a chance on these and I'm really glad I did. These little lights would be best used for ambient light or a night light/emergency light. They don't give off a lot of light, but I feel it's at least equivalent to a standard nightlight you'd plug into a wall socket. The instructions that come with it are rather poor, pictures with no words, so it took a little time to figure out what you do to turn it off (turn it sideways so it's parallel with the floor until it turns off, a few seconds, and then bring it upright) and what you do to change colors (turn it sideways and bring it back to upright quickly). There's something in it that you can hear sliding when you do this. I've had absolutely no problems with these little guys holding a charge. They last at least 10 hours, getting dimmer only in the last few hours of battery life. According to the instructions, either the white light or colored light holds a charge longer, but I don't remember which as we use the green light at night while my son sleeps and the white light in the morning when we change his diaper before his morning feeding. To charge simply place them on the charging plate and push the little LED button. The light will turn on while charing and off when charging is complete. I charge them during the day while we're at work since it takes hours to recharge. I alternate which one I use every night so they get used evenly. My favorite feature is that these are waterproof (the lanterns not the charging base), so they'll be good for little kids if they have to use the bathroom at night or if the power goes out just when you need to get a shower. I had the power go out on me just when I was finishing up getting ready for work, so I grabbed one of these. I accidentally knocked it into the sink while I was brushing my teeth. No harm done!
