This razor from this vendor is of good quality. I tried a gold dollar 208 before and it was JUNK. This one came with the same lousy plastic scales but it was ground evenly and the blade was perfectly straight. With these you must sharpen them and like the other reviewer said taking it to a DMT 325 plate because the stabilizer at the toe will get in the way of sharpening. Also these come with virtually no bevel set so unless you want to waste an hour like I did on my 1000 chosera I would even pre set the bevel on a DMT plate as well. It holds an EXCELLENT edge and I actually am thinking of rescaling it because even though its made in china the carbon steel is hardened well. The chinese do make and did make some nice swords through out their history so they know their metal. just don't expect a Ralph Aust, Thiers Issard, or Hart steel from this :). But it holds its edge like the best of them!Mine came in a blue box so I don't know if I got a newer one or not but they seem to have improved the quality unlike my other which came in a clear coffin.

Normally, I'm a pretty upbeat guy, but this razor was very disappointing. Obviously, I knew by the price that I would be taking a chance with this one. I was correct. Out of the box, the blade was warped and not even ground correctly, so I could not even set a starting bevel on this razor. As you know, if you can't set a bevel, the razor can never be sharpened. After spending about :20 minutes trying to set the bevel on an 800 Chosera stone, the razor was trashed due to excessive spine wear, so I threw it away. Due to the fact that I had attempted a sharpening, I knew it would be non-returnable. So, I took a chance and lost. Avoid this product. I wish there was a good straight consistent $35 razor available on the market, but no such luck. I will just save up and get good ones at $100+ per throw. My Dovo's and Thiers Issard razors are outstanding. I don't think that this so-call "straight razor" even qualifies as one since it is neither straight and can't be honed to razor sharp. Junk.

Where to start.1. If you want to save money on disposable razors then know the they can be sharped by stropping them on a leather (strop is to run the razor backwards on a leather or your arm). My Gillette fusion razor I have been using for 3-5 years, and the only thing that I need is a tooth brush to push anything that gets gummed up in it out the back.2. This is very very hard to shave your face.3. It only seems to excel at removing large amounts of hair with a single stroke. Where most other blades will get gummed up, but not this.4. If you don't know how to sharpen a knife and have the tools for it, then consider skipping this item. Anyone that says that the blade is not sharp can sharpen anything. So a tip it has 2 bevels on the edge one steep and one long on the blade.My conclusion is that this is a novelty the blade is good, but the tool has limited use. I do not want to spend any more time trying to git this to save my face. If you are in a hurry that you better have a other option then this.

It has been a learning experience, but it took a lot of sharpening to get this shave ready.

First of all I didn't expect to receive a shave ready razor. This razor is not shave ready. However, after honing and stroping, the razor shaves excellent. Now just a few strokes on the Red Deer strop prior to shaving and its ready to go. This is a lot of razor for the money if you can learn how to sharpen it. I just watched some YouTube videos. It is stainless hollow ground 5/8 blade. It feels good in my hand and seems well made. After getting the bevel where I wanted it, it holds its edge very well on my medium to tough beard. For $15 or $16 bucks, it's hard to beat. I highly recommend.

This is not a shaving razor, it's a knife shaped like a shaving razor. The metal is different. It doesn't matter how much you sharpen it, it wasn't meant to shave with. Looks cool though.

This is my first straight razor so I do not have much to compare too, but it looks nice to me. It doesn't come shave ready but that was expected from what I have read in other reviews. I sharpened it and it came out wonderful. I have used it once after working up the nerve and it cut rather well. Cut being the operative word, yeah cut myself twice but the shave came out nice. Have to practice more.Update: I have shaved with it at least six more times and I am happy with the results. My lack of technic which lead to several cuts has improved and as a result the cuts also lessened, so I am pleased. I plan on honing the razor some more now that I got a 12k hone. Plan on purchasing another one in the near future to keep as a travel razor. Can't go wrong.
