Great little thing but read my review and be warned
For anyone wondering, this is the same netbook as the acer aspire one. I do have the em250 though, so am reviewing it. Ok so i've always been warned against emachines but walmart had this little thing for $260 and I was out christmas shopping for myself last year (2009). So I bought one for me and one for my brother for christmas as well. Figured its walmart and I could always return it. Got them in December and no problems but then that July I was watching a youtube video and the video was playing well but the sound started gliching. Bad Soundcard?? For example if the video would be saying the word "dog" it would say "ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd" and then continue eventually. It didn't spell out each letter, it said it like that! ha. So I was worried but it didn't happen again till around a month later. And then I was still kinda worried but figured again i'd ride it out. Well here I am a year later riding it out still and it works great, and is a fast little machine still. BUT it still has that video/sound gliche where it does that about once a month or week now. For the price its good but I just worry it'll kill over soon and I don't know how to fix laptops. Ha. If you search around you can find an external disc drive for this for only $10-20, not bad. SO hope this helps. I do reccomend this but i'd definately purchase any warranty for it if I were you, just to be safe on the sound issue.

Great little laptop
I bought this because of the price and had read reviews it was a great little netbook. The processor is a little slower than what I am used to on a big desktop computer but I knew that going in when I bought it. Would recommend it.

Great Backpack Stuffer
I have several computers. I got tired of lugging my 15 inch laptop all over the city. I looked at several net-books with a budget of about 300 dollars in mind. After looking at about 6 or 7 net-books, most of them with Windows 7 and anAtom N470 processor, I found this little gem. When I played with the Window 7machines I noticed that the graphical response was sluggish. I assumed that the Atom processor working with 1 gig of memory and the video processor were working hard under Windows 7. The eMachine net-book with Windows XP Home SP/3 seemed a lot more responsive and peppy and since the price was about 30 to 50 dollars cheaper than the other machines I bought the eMachine with XP. I have not been disappointed! I love this machine. It weights less than half my 15 inch laptop I bought in 2009. After cleaning off all the crapware and setting it up to work like my other laptop it spins like a top. I then connected up my external usb DVD burner to the net-book and had no problem making backup driver and system restore disks.I have this net-book in my backpack all the time. Time will tell if this thingis built well enough to last 3-5 years. You should be able get a 6 cell battery for it to extend the discharge time to 6 hours or so. The eMachine website has the drivers for it and some documentation, but there is only basic online support for this model. The thing is actually a re-branded Acer Aspire One AOD250.I highly recommend this model for it's speed and price. So far I have been running all kinds of popular apps and it hasn't crashed or locked up (yet).Another thing I like is that the net-book has access covers on the bottomfor the hard drive/memory/accessory cards. The thing will recognize and can boot most boot-able usb mass storage devicesMy only gripe is that I wish there was a physical volume control(wheel)to control headphone/line-out volume and the audio coming out of the speakers and headphones is a little on weak side but acceptable.Update. Since I wrote the review I ran into a virus I just could not get rid of.After exhausting my resources and my sanity trying to get rid of the virusI hooked up an external DVD burner to the net-book and the restore disks did the trick. Had to go through the same process when I first got it to get it configuredthe way I had it before the virus. But it was worth it.

Love the EM250 Netbook!
I purchased this little gem while on vacation over Christmas in 2009 at Walmart for around $225. Like other's have said, the word "eMachine" on the unit had me a bit nervous, but I also understood that the unit was made by Acer. Well, it's been 16 months and this little netbook is awesome! I use it with my broadband card to surf the web on my hour long commute both morning and night, as well as with my Wi-Fi set up at home. It has great WiFi Range and I have been very happy with it's ability to stay connected - no drops. I have also installed a few movies on the EM250's large 250GB hard drive - and the playback is really very good! In fact, I have used the VGA output and have run movies from my netbook through to my 50" plasma using a VGA cable....while not absolutely perfect, the video feed is good enough to not be bothersome. I also watch YouTube videos streamed from the net along with full movies and TV episodes using Netflix. The EM250 is light, but it's also pretty durable! I have dropped it twice - and it never missed a beat. If I had to find a flaw, it would be the battery life. After consistent use over the past 16 months, the original battery only lasts about 1.5 hours - so I have an AC adapter at both work and home to keep it juiced up for the bus commute. The Intel Atom processor works well with the 1GB of installed RAM and the version of Windows 7 starter is absolutely awesome - a lighter version of Windows is appreciated actually! I have since installed Office 2010 on my netbook and it performs perfectly. All I need now is a new battery and maybe a memory upgrade.......but what 16 month old mobile device doesn't need those? :)

Best Value for the price
I have had this netbook for three weeks now, after my larger laptop died. This was a better, more cost effective alternative to having the old one fixed. I am very happy I took advantage of it!WindowsXP is easy enough and for my needs, this is perfect. It's light weight, portability and long battery life, makes it the perfect computer for those of us who need the convenience of a netbook.I couldn't be more pleased! If you are in the market for a netbook, I suggest for anyone to not count this one out. It's a gem.
