This pendant is based upon the revolutionary theories of the great Enlightenment polyhistor (universal scientist), Nicolaus Copernicus. This personal calibration instrument, a gyroscopic armilla (Roman military decoration for gallantry), responds to the gravitational forces and global tides that govern our corner of reality. Copernicus's calculations questioned our received scientific knowledge, and contradicted the various manifestations of Papal doctrine, placing his name amongst the most important contributors of the Scientific realm. The proposition of Copernicus, is modeled here in an articulated, tri-tone pewter armillary pendant. The bronzed outer gear-ring holds within one gilt and one pewter calibration ring, all centered around a Swarovski, iridescent pearl "Sun" bead. All the rings independently spin upon their own axis, creating a functioning armillary-sphear. A small smoked topaz cabochon hi-lights the inner ring. Approximate Dimensions: Width 1.77" x Height 2.56" x Depth 0.32" Chain Length: 22" brass finished curb chain Materials: Tri-tone pewter, Gilt-color pewter, and antiqued pewter
