Little footprint Big Computer
Nice computer with a very small footprint. Speed seems to be good but I haven't loaded it down with a lot of software. For most people who use a computer to navigate the web and use office suites it will do the job. Eventually I want to replace the traditional drive with solid state so there are no moving parts. You do have to use an external DVD drive. I'm very happy with it.

Pleasantly Suprised
I was very pleasantly surprised with this little unit. I usually build my computers from parts and I have used ASUS motherboards for almost 2 decades. When our media PC attached to the TV blew up and I didn't have time to build a new one, I settled on this. It was compact enough to fit in the space and had what we needed. If I was going to buy again, I would probably buy the bare bones version and get my own memory and hard drive. I prefer Windows 7, so I put in an SSD and installed Win 7 (the drivers are all available on Asus' website). Working on this little unit is very easy. It's obvious Asus is trying to compete with the Mac Mini here, but I think this is a much more user friendly machine than a Mac Mini. The box is an understated, but elegant looking thing that is bigger than it needs to be because of the included keyboard (it also has a mouse). It's a little bigger than a Mac Mini, but where you have to use a putty knife and a lot of patience to upgrade the memory or get to the hard drive on the Mac Mini, on this, opening it up takes a couple of seconds, if you're slow.I replaced the hard drive with an SSD and added more memory in less than ten minutes. The drive bay is for a 3.5 inch drive and SSDs are 2.5 inch. There was no way to mount the SSD down and the only thing holding it in place is the plug, but since the computer isn't moving around any, I don't see it as a major problem. There is no room for any internal peripherals like an extra hard drive or another video card, but for our purposes that wasn't necessary. If you look at pictures of these computers on the web, some show a VGA port on the back and others show a miniport on the back. This model I'm reviewing (and bought) is the one with the VGA port. I run a regular flat panel monitor connected to the VGA and run HDMI to the TV. The video blanks for a second when switching the TV to the computer, but otherwise the video is fine to both at the same time.

Windows 8 plus i3 = so slow as to be unusable
I really wanted to like this unit; it looks sharp and seems very well designed. The problem is that with the pairing of an i3 processor and Windows 8, the computer is so slow that it is unusable. I think that is likely also the reason that it totally froze several times, requiring a reboot to continue what I was doing. It's going back, and I'll look at other PCs (including the Vivo i5 model) as a possible replacement.

A tad Slower
A tad slower than I was hoping for but it does the job. Its basically a notebook without a keyboard and a screen. Sits off in the corner and quietly does its job. Get the extra memory when you purchase.

Three Stars
This item was returned. Under-powered and overpriced. Probably cheaper than a Mac Mini, but that's not saying much.

A great HTPC!
I bought the Intel Core I3 version to use as a Home Theater PC. I use this to access my Slingbox in Illinois which is attached to my DirecTV there. I'm in North Carolina during the week. With this setup, and this Asus Vivo HTPC connected to my Samsung 42" TV in North Carolina, I can fully control and watch my DirecTV in Illinois. It works much better than using the Sling App on an ipad or Western Digital set top box! I did replace the hard drive witha 128 GB Samsung Evo SSD which sped up the computer greatly. It was'nt slow before, but the SSD definately made it boot faster and more responsive, as they always do. It didn't need the SSD to perform acceptably, but I wanted one. A great purchase for a HTPC (home theater PC).

Worst Audio you can imagine
If you plan on using your desktop to play music to speakers, don't buy this. The audio is terrible no matter which quality speakers you use (I have Bose Companion III)I bought this in January, and opened a support case with Asus when realizing the problem was with the computer and not something else.Support was totally useless - they advised resetting Windows to factory settings (which I did to no avail), and then sent me an RMA to send it in for "repair".Instead, Amazon kindly switched it out for a new machine just a few weeks ago. Lo and behold, same problem.I guess there's nothing to be done, they put this crappy audio card in for the built in speaker, and using the Realtek Audio Manager to tweak the settings hardly helps. The ultimate proof: attaching my iPhone 6 to the speakers, the audio is a million times better.

Excellent Product!!
Excellent product for a home desktop, great streaming videos with no trouble. It should however have a front USB port and audio jack so you wouldn't need to move the unit in order to access the back of the unit and the ports.

Received this product on time and in good condition. Set up is very simple and works as expected after set up. The unit is light and compact.A good choice if you are looking for a low to medium price machine for daily regular use. Not a gaming machine.
