Fairly interesting storyline
The plot was good, there was appeal in seeing previous characters, and the setting unique. However, I had major issues with the way the investigation was handled by the two Rangers involved. I understand it was to keep the story going, but anyone who has read anything about Texas Rangers knows they are dogged, focused, and highly trained in investigative techniques. They would not wait hours or a day to search a victim's home, nor would they waste time with employees, but rather they would go right to the head of the company for the answers they needed. This book did not have the flow of the others in the series and was less believable. This is a book you borrow from the library, it's not one to buy.

Scam
This is not a new book but was made to appear as a new released book. Make sure you have not bought this before. Released date is a scam.

Outstanding!! Loved It
Mary Burton has clearly become one of my Favorite suspense writers!!Her books are so addictive and hard to put down. The story lines are so well written.I cannot wait until her next book is released. When the Texas Rangers come across the body of a man hanging from a tree, theirfirst thought was suicide. When the next body they find is of a woman crouched in thecorner of a commercial freezer, it too looks like suicide. When the bodies keep adding upand they all have one thing in common. Each of these murders have occurred to wealthyfamilies. They were sent to Shady Grove Estates as teenagers because for one reason oranother they had tried to commit suicide. Now years later someone is killing them in the waysthat they had tried to kill themselves.Ranger Tec Bragg and Greer Templeton, (years ago she also was one of the troubled teens sent to Shady Grove) must find out who is behind this before it's too late.Bragg begins to have strong feelings for Greer. Hopefully he can find the killer, before he gets hishands on her!! Time is running out.

Not my favorite
I am a fan of Mary Burton's novels. So I was looking forward to read another of her books. I had not read the prior Texas Rangers books in this series. I liked this one. But it didn't catch my attention the her books usually do. The plot was interesting enough even though I had figured out the link between the murders before Tec (the Texas Ranger) did. I was interested to find out the 'why'...and actually found that reason to be a little lame. There were unresolved holes in the plot. And I found the dialogue to be clunky and awkward. Bottom line for me: I did not connect to either the male or female protagonist and that takes away a lot of the enjoyment for me.This book didn't really feel like Mary Burton's writing. But since it is, I'm not sure what happened. I will chalk it up to one of those flukes and look forward to reading other Mary Burton novels.

Like this author
Many years of being haunted with guilt, loss and loneliness have carved a life of focused hard work for our main character. She doesn’t want to let anyone in for a relationship, but that door cracks open with meeting her Ranger. A puzzling mystery as her former friends are being murdered; and one wonders, can he keep her safe?

Unbelievable and mighty villain
I like Mary Burton's books, but this book is a far cry from some of her other books. The storyline was good and I liked the characters Greer, Bragg and Mitch. I can’t believe the ranger falls deeply in love with her in few encounters and he ignores ranger protocol and becomes sexually involved with her.The villain pulled off all those murders like magic with no one the wiser and the reason given was very tenuous at best. It was just OK and hence the 3 stars.

Another Great Read
This is the third in this series and I'm looking forward to the next one. Each Ranger story introduces a new ranger. Each new story line has a new romance and a new villain. Burton introduces you to new lives and their history and what each one has gone through to have a villain out to harm them. Does it keep you on the edge of your seat? yes! Does it make you think about what is coming next when you have to put it down to drive? yes! Her books are not over run with sexual overtones, it has just enough to keep you happy. Suspense, romance, drama and human psychology all in each of her books.

... Barton I have read this was one of the better ones. While her development of the Texas Ranger ...
Of all the books by Ms Barton I have read this was one of the better ones. While her development of the Texas Ranger characters is from the 1950's (they are all well over six-feet tall, strong, well-muscled, "growl", etc) I do like the other characters in the book and feel our heroine especially was original. The identity of the killer had me guessing until the end, I loved the setting which was totally the opposite of what I imagined the entire state of Texas to be, and I loved the heroine's occupation. The violence wasn't as "in your face" as it has been in other books. I would read this again.A note to Ms Burton: I saw the words "long fingers" in the book repeatedly to the point of being annoying. Before I wrote this I actually considered thumbing back through the book and giving an actual number of times this was used!! Please come up with some other descriptions in future novels.
