Superb design, construction, value
I've only used this once, so this review is subject to change, but I doubt that it will.Go here: [...] There is a button labeled 'video instruction guide'. Click that to see a video on how to assemble this unit upon arrival and how to use it, save for showing you how to use the attachments.I find this vacuum well designed. The hose is flexible, and wraps around an upper support before plugging in to the cleaning head. The hose clicks into place, and need not be forced into place as with other vacuums. The hose is easily removed by clicking a button. There is no danger of the hose falling out of the unit, and spewing dust all over your home or apartment, a danger that exists on many inexpensive vacuums. There is a height adjustment that has five levels of height. This is accomplished by pressing down on the adjustment knob then turning it to the height you want. Then upon release of the button, it snaps into place. The rotating beater can be turned on or off, so that you can clean linoleum or hardwood floors. This is accomplished by a foot pedal. The pedal is protected from breaking by the housing. It cannot be depressed too far, causing the switch to break. This is a superb feature. The on/off switch is on the handle. This makes turning it on or off very comfortable. Unlike less expensive vacuums where the on off switch is a foot pedal, it cannot be depressed too far which causes it to break. The unit is all plastic, but it is well designed and constructed. It is built solid, and I expect it to last a long time, unlike the last bagless wonder that I was dissatisfied with from day one. Because it is plastic, static electricity accumulates and large particles will be attracted to it. These are easily removed by unlocking the hose with a click of a button, and vacuuming the head of the unit when you are finished using it.The handle rotates a full 90 degrees, making it easy to get under things. However, the head is too large to fit under a modern metal bed frame, but you can easily get under coffee tables and lamp tables. The head also features a bumper guard that is made of rubber, so there is little danger of scratching a leg of a table, wall baseboards, or furniture that goes all the way to the ground. This unit is made of plastic, but it is a little heavier than expected. This is because the motor for vacuuming and running the beater is heavier than average, meaning that it is powerful. The beater is belt driven by the motor and is not driven by wind like some less expensive (and cheaper) vacuums. And although the unit is heavy, it pushes along easily enough, and if you need to lift the unit, there is a strong and sturdy lifting handle placed on the handle at a comfortable height. The unit cleans very well! Extremely well! The suction the motor produces is strong enough to hold a hand attachement onto the hose though air flows around the attachment. I have a dog, and this vacuum picks up dog hairs off a deep pile carpet very easily. It also picks up larger particles where the carpet meets linoleum or hardwood, but things it misses are easily picked up by clicking the switch that unlocks the hose, then using the hose (no hand attachment required). The cord is 30 feet long! This allows me to clean my 850 sq feet apartment by plugging it in once! However, the cord is not not spring-retractable and must be wrapped after use around very ample (and sturdy) cord retaining supports. I can live with this, and so can you at this price point. There is a 'bag is full' light on the case that houses the bag. It is well placed on the top of the housing, and easy to see.See the video on the link I posted above. It shows you how bags are removed. One touch does it, and you never have to touch a full bag.The hand attachments fit easily onto the handle. They include a crevice tool, a soft bristle upholstery tool/dusting brush, and a wind-driven beater brush tool that is useful for small spaces on your floor or in your car. It works great on dog hairs. All of these fit on the handle and the head. The pictures show the wind-driven hand tool on the handle, but it is better placed on the head where the soft bristle brush tool is supposed to go. Put the wind-driven tool on the head and the soft bristle on the handle. It is less likely to fall off because of the wind-driven beater is heavier. The hose is spring loaded to be stretchable. I strongly doubt that this hose will tolerate abuse. If you want to clean the tops of curtains, place the vacuum on a stool to avoid over stretching the hose. All in all, I'm very pleased with this vacuum cleaner. It is well constructed and well designed. There is little chance that the hose will accidentally become unattached. There are safety features built into this that prevent you from accidentally breaking a switch. The cord is very long. The motor is powerful enough to pick up large particles from hard floors where they meet carpet, and the beater is motor driven, not air driven, so you'll always have adequate force to rotate the beater. Also, Hoover bags can be found nearly everywhere. This is solidly built, but a little heavy. This is good! Heavy means you have a very powerful motor. At this price point, this vacuum ranks number one for its features, power, and versatility. If you're hunting and comparing inexpensive vacuums at this price point and even lower price points, stop here and buy this vacuum. You get what you pay for, and an $80 vacuum is not going to do as good a job as this unit, nor will it last very long. Oh! And if you're considering buying a bagless, DON'T DO IT! Cleaning the filters is a filthy mess. Emptying the canister is also a filthy mess. JUST DON'T BUY A BAGLESS! The time you spend cleaning the filter and your clothes is not worth saving the money you'll spend on bags! You need to be dirt poor to avoid spending money on bags, and if you don't spend money on bags, you'll be dirt poor once again.p.s. This unit ships with Free Super Saving shipping. It was estimated that I would get this unit within 7-10 days. I got it in three days.

Great vacuum!
I was looking for a vacuum that was budget friendly but that had some power to it. After sifting through a ton of reviews I decided this was the right one for us and I have not been disappointed. Here's a little bit about what I've put this vacuum through so far. I bought it 5 months ago when we moved into a new house. We have since replaced all the carpet in the house so while it is new carpet it's still shedding quite a bit and this vacuum does a great job of removing all the excess carpet. The house has been under various remodeling projects over the last 5 months. I've used this vacuum to suck up drywall and plaster dust left behind along with some sawdust. The drywall dust had just permeated the carpet but after a good slow sweep with this vacuum the carpet was so much cleaner, softer and smelled like it should. I have no doubt this vacuum did a great job getting all that nasty drywall dust out. It has also been used to just keep up with a house with 5 people (3 of which are little children) and a dog and it has just surpassed my expectations. It has more suction than any vacuum I've ever owned and I like that it is self propelled, I'm not sure I could push it across my short shag carpet if it wasn't being propelled itself. I accidentally had the roller bars turned off and started to vacuum and realized immediately that something was wrong because it was much too heavy for me to push but as soon as I turned the bars back on it was right back to its usual ease. I have used it a few times on vinyl flooring and seems like it does a great job, I just really don't have much use for it on vinyl as my vinyl and hardwood are on a different level than my carpet so I just keep the vacuum on the same level as the carpet. I could also add that I am 6 months pregnant right now and have no issues pushing this vacuum or even the few times I have carried it up and down the 14 stairs to a different level in the house. It's not overly heavy and I can manage it just fine. If you're looking for a great deal this vacuum really is it, if you're looking for tons of bells and whistles with questionable ability then you should probably waste your money on something fancier looking and more expensive :) Happy Cleaning!editing to add: I have only had bagless vacuums for the last 10+ years and I have to say, it is VERY nice to get back to a bagged vacuum. I absolutely hated emptying my old bagless vacs into the trash. I'd try to do it before they got too full and you ended up with that big dust ball after you dumped it but it never mattered, there was still so much dust in the air after dumping it. I just changed the bag on this new Hoover after vacuuming up the mess left by the carpet layers (just got the last room of carpet done!) and all the excess pieces of the shaggy carpet on the edges of the room and there was also a lot of drywall dust in the bag from the previous day and it was just so nice to be able to dump the bag out without all that dust billowing back up at you from the trash can. This seals the deal, I will forever be a bagged vacuum girl!!All of the attachments stay on this vacuum so nicely. I had a Eureka several years ago that shed attachments as you used it. I'd find attachments all over after vacuuming because they just wouldn't stay put where they were supposed to. Not a problem with this Hoover.

Great Vacuum
I purchased this vacuum 5 years ago and it is still working great! It has very good suction and is easy to use. The controls are very intuitive. I live in a single story home, so I have been unable to test on stairs, but the attachments work great on furniture. The vacuum itself is light weight and compact for easy storage.

Excellent Basic Bagged Upright Vacuum!
Great vacuum for the price. I have always believed in bagged vacuums as emptying bagless vacuums is pretty disgusting, and the dust flies around (I am sensitive to dust). Works great on my low-pile carpets (or bare floor). Comes with 3 tools — crevice, upholstery brush, and a power brush-head for stairs. All in all I would say that I am happy with this vacuum, for the price of under $200 Cdn. I was not willing to shell out $600+ for a Dyson or a Miele — so bagged Hoover upright seemed like a logical choice. One criticism is that the attachment hose is on the short side, but that’s usually the case with upright vacuums (get a canister vacuum if you want a long hose... then again you might lose suction!). Simple vacuum to use. I would say that it is neither heavy nor light... somewhere in between. The suction is really strong when you attach the crevice tool, so you have to be careful where you point. Very easy to use, not a complicated machine. Seems sturdy enough.

Suction is too strong
The suction is strong but the hose does not stretch because of that. So you have to fight it when trying to use additional attachments (other than the main power head). My previous, similar vacuum cleaner didn't have that problem.

Unfit for seniors living in condo units with small surfaces & with neighbours.
Unfortunately, I did not try it immediately after delivery. I should have never bought this cleaner: (1) it is heavy, clumsy and very noisy. It is not made for senior retirees like us, living in condo units. It is good for large corridors and for non-inhabited areas of a building. I was attracted by the fact that the filters are said to be washable, thus sparing us from pinching from our meager pensions for purchase of new filters. (2) As per Instructions, I tried to check on the Filter Bag (1/4 full) and the other filters. The Secondary (horizontal) filter was clean. (3) As for the Final Filter (vertical), I was unable to dislodge it from its "cage". I pushed down on the Tab with reasonable force, short of breaking it, it wouldn't move down even by a fraction of a mm. It might be too late to return it. If so, and since it is still under Warranty, you have to tell me where in Montreal (Canada) I should take it for solving at least the indicated problem. Waiting for your reply & wishing you a happy day. Berhane

Good vacuum fora great price
Had it for few months now. We had a bag-less upright from another manufacturer and the filters had to be cleaned after every use or it wouldn't pick up the dog hair off the carpet. This does a much better job of that. Also, it filters the air better. There's not as much dust settling on the tables, cabinets etc after vacuuming floor. It has brush on/off switch which is really good when using the hose so it's not burning a hole in the floor. Haven't had to change the bag yet, but it wasn't hard to install, and will be much better than emptying a dirt cup after every use. It's lighter than the old one and was easy to assemble. The only negative I have at this point is the light. It's ridiculously dim. Still, a very minor issue that I resolved by upgrading the lamp and we don't vacuum in the dark anyways.

I like the long power cord and the on/off foot switch ...
My last Hoover upright has lasted 40 years but wear and tear were evident. The new one appears to do the job alright but I do not expect the same lifespan from it. I like the long power cord and the on/off foot switch for the carpet agitator. The small power brush for stairs and furniture seems effective at removing pet hair. The fact that it has a disposable filter bag was one of the features that I wanted as most stores only seem to sell bagless vacuums.. I would recommend this one as a medium priced one
