Every Long Range Over Road truck driver should carry one of these, especially if you have been hit by falling cargo when opening the read doors. This item prevents surprises by bracing the doors together and only opening so much, if there is something falling, then it wants to catch it, by not letting the doors spring open and hitting you on the head with falling cargo boxes.

Safety lanyards are typically 6' plus some expansion length for shock absorbing. In construction like on a roof or scaffolding that length may be appropriate but when climbing a tree i definitely want to arrest my fall a lot sooner. As an arborist you are secured to your climbing rope in two or more points most of the time. Your safety lanyard ascends on a separate line next or very near you. Short is good and doesn't tangle up in your gear..
