The Powers to Lead

a very interest insight about the issue
It is not easy to write about leadership. Nye do it rightfully, with a strong connection between theory and practice. His analysis about transactional and inspirational is useful and practical. Certainly still an approach to a complex concept, but a very interesting, mindful and clear approach. His explanation about the soft and hard skills , emotional intelligence, communication, vision, and organizational and political skills are, in my opinion an excellent frame for analysis. Do not share some points about the Machiavellian skills and some antipathy to Bush. And his final discussion about ethics open many interest horizons but still lack a deeper analysis in many points. At the end, a good start for the issue.

powers to Lead a best book to read
I have found this book to be and excellent read because its style is very conversational and therefore accessible to the read to be able to follow the arguments even if you may disagree with some of them. It is overall an excellent book and would say it is a must read for all who are interested in the subject of leadership and appropriate styles.

Good book about power
I read this book for a class and much of the concepts in it I was already familiar with, but it did provide a lot of examples and other concepts I did not know about that help my development with the different ways power is applied and used in this world.

Forget Bill Nye, Joe Nye knows what he talking about!
Joseph Nye does an amazing job explaining the different powers from soft power, hard power, and the combination of smart power. I read this as a freshman in my Scholars program, Public Leadership. From reading that book, I have used the tools that Nye teaches in leading organizations more effectively. I use it so much that I reference this book when it comes to leadership and team development.

Glad to find it on Amazon
Textbook for my daughter and she said their professor barely used it. She said it was a little too "text-booky"

Dull read
Author gives a lot of examples. The book is not for small buisness owners. Political leaders may learn something from it.

Good read. Came out originally as Obama was charging up the rails firstbtime round. Interesting reading now - also in a British context in the run up to a crucial General Election, in thinking about what we really should be looking for in our leaders as opposed to what the papers tell us a leader should look like.
