Growtrax Biodegradable Grass Seed Mat - 50 Sq Ft Bermuda Rye

This product was easy to use and actually worked. I’ve tried several types of grass seed in this area and nothing ever took. I mowed the spot short, raked and watered the hard soil, then soaked the ground and applied this. I also added a bit of extra seed after watering before putting mat down. After multiple failed attempts with regular grass seed, I finally have grass growing.

really wanted this product to work, but unfortunately, it did not live up to the claims. I followed all the instructions exactly as directed—proper ground preparation, consistent watering, and placement—yet I saw little to no grass growth. The concept itself is great—having a biodegradable mat that combines seed, fertilizer, and mulch all in one sounds incredibly convenient. The product is advertised as a simple “roll it out, water, and watch it grow” solution, with seeds protected between layers to prevent washout. However, in my experience, the results did not match that promise at all. Even after giving it ample time and maintaining proper moisture levels, the coverage was very patchy, and in some areas, nothing grew whatsoever. It felt like the seed distribution within the mat was inconsistent, or possibly not viable. For the price and the expectations set by the product description, this was disappointing. Traditional seeding methods have honestly given me better and more reliable results. Overall, I would not recommend this product based on my experience. It may work for some, but it definitely did not perform as described for me.

I have tried putting down several different brands of grass seed in a particular area of my lawn and have had no luck. I was about to try some of the "spray grasses" but stumbled across this product and glad I did. Here is a quick rundown of my experience. (Area I used this on is sunny half the day and shady the rest of the day.) When I went to purchase I thought 50 square feet would be plenty for my needs. It "just" covered the small area I wanted to do. So to me, it was expensive in comparison to the amount of yard I was using it on. It would be wise to actually measure the area vs. "guestimating" like I did to be safe. The directions included are very clear and straight forward. I followed them to the T and had no issues as expected. This rolls out very nicely and quickly. My watering regimen was three times a day for several weeks. Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. Photo showing the material being freshly put down was 7/31 and my after photo was taken 9/15. (6 weeks) This did the trick and the grass has been doing very well since. So in short, I was happy with the outcome and this did what I needed. Two thumbs up. One tip is to be sure your area is well saturated before putting it down and be on top of the watering schedule for best results.

I have used this before with excellent results. This time around the temperatures were much higher and the weather prevented similar results from the last time. Lesson learned, best to use, if you live in coastal Alabama or similar area, in Spring and early Fall. Update: If you live in along the Gulf Coast or where temperatures are high, you will have poor results. I tried this product in early May with mixed results, but some patches flourished while others did not. Now with August and temperatures hovering around 100 degree the grass is barely surviving; even with constant watering. The seed mix is saying it is rye grass, but I am not convinced when comparing the existing lawn with the patches I used this product. Overall, it is a reasonable solution, when it works, and the temperatures are not hot.

I was a little skeptical but I was having problems with my lawn and thought that I had nothing to lose. It actually worked well. I placed the paper rolls down on the ground and watered them. The paper began to disolve immediately. I kept checking it and in two weeks I had grass sprouting. It worked. I thought that it was a little expensive but grass seed is expensive too.

This Biodegradable grass does not work as stated. After several weeks only three stems of grass appeared. I do not recommended it

I decided to try Grotrax when a grub infestation ruined a large portion of our yard. I tried grass seed first but it just washed down the hill with watering and I thought Grotrax would work well, it does! Make sure to read the instructions that come with it!! FYI, you do have to prep the area by removing remaining grass and laying down topsoil first. After that, it is very easy to roll out, cut and water to activate the seeds. Make sure you have the mat in the exact place you want it because once it gets wet it comes apart and you can’t move it. . Keeping it wet is key, so we water it several times per day. After only 4 weeks we had grass growing like crazy! The pics attached show the freshly laid rolls and directly to the left is the grass grown after 4 weeks. What also makes Grotrax convenient is that you can customize the size and shape for easy patching anywhere you want grass. It has everything you need in the roll to grow lush, green grass in a short amount of time. I highly recommend Grotrax! **update 7/31/2021 - full grass where we laid it! We even laid the second area over some existing grass and it’s filling in nicely. We live in the great white north (NW U.P. of Michigan), great climate for this grass.

This is terrible. I know it says do not put out in wind but it was a gentle breeze and it was torn to shreds. Had to buy some burlap to cover it as once you water it , it the disintegrates into pulp. Save your money and buy grass seed. Should have gave it a one star is it has been almost a month and no growth.

We laid this out in April when we had a lot of rain. Perfect conditions for growth and nothing sprouted. If it wasn’t kept wet, it would blow away. Looked awful. Do not buy this. After a few weeks I gave up and pulled it up.
