Best version you can buy
The quality of binding is good, even if it is with an uninspiring cover. The paper is a bit thin, maybe because of 1000 plus pages. Not to say this is the best version. The English is not difficult and there are plenty of notes to give us context of famous person, place and events.

A great book
The packaging was good , book arrived perfectly safe and in best condition. Talking about book - such great writing, full of drama, plots , you won't even feel like you are reading a hefty book , you just fly through the pages.

The Best Edition of a Timeless Classic
One of the two grand-daddies of all revenge tales. (Another one is the Mahabharata) This epic novel is one of my favourites of all time and this review is not about the novel but the Penguin Classics Hardcover edition which I've bought recently. Firstly, this is a decent cloth-bound hardcover book with a not-so-impressive cover design. But the quality of binding seems good, if not excellent. Secondly, a very strange thing is that, in Amazon's Indian website, or American website or UK website, or Penguin's every official website, everywhere, the sample text from the novel which has been provided in those websites are incorrect. The sample text is not matched with Robin Buss' translation which Penguin's both clothbound or paperback edition contain. And everywhere the same faulty sample is provided in a copy-paste fashion. I have no idea how such misleading error's occurred with a reputed publisher like Penguin and a universally popular classic like Monte Cristo. Rectify this, folks. Thirdly, the page quality is better than the usual Penguin paperback quality. Fourthly, the content (that is, the chronology, Introduction, further reading, and explanatory Notes etc. beside the main text) is exactly the same as the Penguin paperback edition. This is just a hardcover version of the previous one. Buy the hardcover edition if you need a long-lasting and good-to-handle copy of this timeless classic. And finally, always, I repeat, always get a Robin Buss translated edition if you want to enjoy this classic with its full offerings. No other available edition is as smooth and as complete as the one I'm holding in my hand right now. You try to save your money on any other edition, you sulk. Well, happy reading. :-)

Masterful
The book in itself is a gem. There are countless reviews online which attest to the greatness of this book. The quality of this edition is very good. The clothbound cover is a finesse that lovers of classics like myself will cherish. That being said, although the binding is excellent, the prints on the hard cover fade very easily. The quality of the translation is exceptional and it greatly manages to maintain the narrative essence of the original.

Classic!
I don’t normally read fiction if I know the plot or the ending. In case of Monte Cristo, I knew not just the plot and ending but also the real-life revenge story which inspired the Alexandre Dumas. So naturally I was reluctant to pick up Monte Cristo despite many recommending. Just out of whim I picked up “The Count of Monte Cristo”, and boy it was worth it. I will probably re-read this fiction in the near year because it was so good. I was blind but now I see why so many love this classic even today. Highly recommended.

Perfeito
Livro lindo .Não veio com a etiqueta presa no livro não. Ao invés disso veio adesivada no papel celofane que envolve o livro….

Yes this is the Robin Buss translation !
This is about the clothbound edition by penguin. It is the only version I could find with the Robin Buss translation. It is the most modern and most readable translation in English. Highly recommended. I hope that one day Penguin will publish a bit more elaborate edition of this version. I think this book deserves it.

A classic for every library....but that effing damn sticker.....!
A beautiful book that needed a proper protected cover! The sticker should have been on the cellophane!!! I'm very angry about the damage...seriously. I've bought a lot of books like this from penguin and none had the sticker directly on he cloth. This is a waste of a perfectly good hardback cover and subtracts value from an edition that is NOT economical. Shame to Penguin.

classic
The story grabs you and never lets go. I never expected to enjoy this book as much as I did. Every day I looked forward to returning to the world of Edmond Dantès. Part adventure, part historical fiction, and part a study of human nature, The Count of Monte Cristo is a remarkable journey. It even made me want to visit Château d’If. I highly recommend taking this journey with Edmond Dantès.
