I don't use every piece, but it's a great starter/keeper kit
some of these are really basic, like the slides, but they really motivated me to expand my microscope equipment. I really like it. The blue dye is useful, I mean so many parts of this kit cover so many bases, that you don't have to go out and buy them individually - really nifty!

Great Dyes
This is a great little kit for homeschool microscope work. We needed the various dyes, but only in small amounts -- just what this kit provides. And at $9, the price is perfect. The sea monkey growing kit is a bonus that my son is excited to try out. The slides aren't great; probably because they are supposed to be safe. pffft. Buy some real glass slides and a case to keep them in. With these dyes, the higher quality slides and a sturdy case, your kids will be making slides from any and everything in the house to examine under a microscope.

Cheap way to get blank slides
A lot of this is questionable - especially the cheap eye protection and the plastic tweezers. This is a good way to let the kids practice making slides for themselves. The set comes with 10 glass slides and slide covers, whih you can use, wash, and re-use. A lot of what is in the box is play-science, but it was a good purchase - $10 and prime shipping.

Great learning tool for kids!! Fun and interesting.
I highly recommend this slide making kit!!! It is fun and educational. Our 6 yr old son received this for his birthday along with a microscope and our 10 yr old daughter constantly begs to use it! It is now number one on her Christmas wish list! Great for all ages with lots of fun experiments to do as a family.

Great for older kids
I purchased this item for my son as a Christmas present to accompany his new microscope. I was amazed at everything we found inside when we opened it. It is a very complete kit. I would not purchase it for a younger child, though, as I'm going to need to carefully monitor my advanced 6 year old with it. However, he is really enjoying making the slides and getting to see what things look like up close.

Expensive Sea Monkeys.
My 8 year old son had a science project. This was an inexpensive way to make some slides. If you have a microscope decent enough to enjoy decent slides this is not going to help. ALL THE PARTS ARE LOW QUALITY PLASTIC. That means that any microscopic observations are plagued with artifacts and distortions. Basically, all you see are the flaws in the plastic slides. It looks good to an 8 year old but why teach them about cheap lab equipment? The brine shrimp was the only redeeming feature that prevented us returning the kit. I let the 5 year old play with the plastic kit and make (mud pies essentially) slides and acquired glass slides and covers for the 8 year old. (Under supervision of course.) This is a toy, not science. I'd rather get them another transformer as a toy and spend a little extra on real science.

Junk.
I like a product that does what it should, first and foremost, price being secondary. I can complain about the price all day but if the product was right I at least have a good product. Cheap price and a product in the trash is worse than an expensive product but one I use. This is made for small children or beginners. the goggles are worthless so they cannot be used afterwords. the files and slides are not something my daughters will be able to keep. Essentially it is a kit that teaches them how to make slides but when it is all over, they have learned how to make slide but the slides they made with this kit are in the trash. not even the tweezers are worth keeping when it is all said and done. they are happy to have learned how to make slides, but I would have gladly bought the "expensive" one as they would still have slides and equipment to use in the future.

Decent beginner's kit, but not great
Let me start out by saying this is a decent beginners kit. There are more complete kits on amazon, but they are twice the price and not available on prime. If you don't mind paying 10 dollars for shipping and 40 dollars for your kit, there are better options around. I was looking for something to get us started and this does do that, but I'll need to do some more shopping, and parts of the kit aren't going to last long. This kit does NOT contain a blade or a needle, although the box does warn "This toy contains functional sharp needle, also functional sharp edge on scalpel and slicer" so that's a bit confusing. If you are going to prepare many slides, you'll need a blade and needle. It also doesn't come with gum media if you want to make permanent slides, so I'd classify this as a temporary slide making kit. It comes with 10 blank slides, which isn't a ton, so be prepared to have to buy more slides if you want to make permanent slides, but it's pretty decent if you're making temporary slides and rewashing. It's got two prepared slides (we have grasshopper parts and textiles), 12 blank labels (not that important for temporary slides, in my opinion), 12 glass covers, 12 Statical slide covers, a small plastic magnifying glass, 2 collecting vials, 2 graduated cylinders, a vial of shrimp eggs (these are readily available at aquarium stores), a vial of eosin, a vial of methylene blue (dye), a vial of sodium chloride (this is salt for you non chem people--and I think adding salt was a way to pad the kit and make it sound impressive but it's really a worthless addition), cheap goggles, a "micro hatchery" (for the shrimp eggs...it's a bit pointless), a stirring rod, a dropper, and a pair of plastic tweezers. The two most worthless parts of this kit are the addition of salt and the shrip eggs/micro hatchery. Salt...I've got it on my table. I don't need it added to a microscope kit so that it can look more impressive. Same thing with the eggs (except I don't have brine shrimp on my table, ha ha). It's cool to make the brine shrimp available and suggest observing their life cycle as a project, but I was more interested in the nuts and bolts of making our own slides, not a science project kit. Same thing with the salt. I didn't need it in the kit so that I could shake it up in some water and observe. That's not what I wanted the kit for. I'd love a little more attention to slides, chemicals, and specimen collection rather than brine shrimp and salt. Bottom line, this is a decent kit but it's more toy based. If you're looking for a quick jump start into slide making, this absolutely does that (although you will at least need a scalpel or razor blade to do this). However, if you're looking for something more comprehensive, invest in a more professional kit or research and buy your components individually. I can see this opening the door to microscope slide making, but if you spark a long term interest, this kit is going to outlive its usefulness fairly quickly.

this is really good to get your kids into microscopes, They will need a bit of help making the slides but once they get started they will be hooked they they want to see everything

Nice but the contents in the bottles are very less and the I instruction manual is not providing much information about how to make a slide!!otherwise the product is good and if they improve the quantity of chemicals it would be appreciated and also the quality if manual should be improved in terms of language

Disappointed! All of the slide solutions are 100% dried up. Shrimp eggs not viable. Purchased the product so my daughter could see bacteria in motion and hatch the shrimp eggs. Hopefully we can return.

It made my grand daughter very happy to be able to make her own slide and study them ,she's loving it.
