Understanding the Bird of Prey

if you work with raptors at all (education, falconry, rehab, etc..) this book is full if very useful information

This is a very good book but, it is not a new edition as is implied by the publication date. This is a paperback edition of the 1995 publication with black and white rather than color photos. Again, it is a great and useful book for falconers but if you have the 1995 edition you do not need to buy this one.

Best on its category. N. Fox one of the best in this field. A must to understand the strong and necessary link between falconry and birds of prey conservation.

Of the 18-20 or so falconry books I have read to date, this is by far the most comprehensive, informative and useful. From basic anatomy and physiology to training and flying/hunting birds of prey, it covers it all in wonderful detail. Dr Fox's many years of experience with so many different species and in so many different places and cultures lends him a unique perspective and incredible insight into the sport and the birds we use. If you wish to understand birds of prey and how they should be trained and handled for falconry, you really should own this book.

Wonderful book to explain the biology of raptors. A classic for anyone interested in any raptors and/or falconry.

Anyone who wants to know the biology and physiology of raptors, as well as those seeking to learn to handle them effectively, will learn volumes from this one book. I have read and reread it, as my need for information shifts - I'm a falconer, rehabilitator, and educator, so my focus changes frequently. Fox has a half-century of experience and study. And he knows how to convey it all.

Great book for everything from managing a breeding program, to manning the bird. Awesome information, definitely worth the buy.

Very comprehensive work on the art of falconry and the biology of raptors in general. The chapter on the philosophy of falconry has some inspired writing.

It's a must have, brilliant book for anyone who wants to engage with birds of prey or already works with them, or simply enjoys learning about them as a serious/scientific hobby. You need this book on your shelf whether you're a falconer, breeder, trainer, or a vet, zoologist, or an enthusiast about raptors.
