SLIK Pro 700 DX Black Tripod Legs 71" - AMT Alloy, Supports Up to 44lbs

I'm very pleased with these. I've previously only used a gitzo reporter ($300 legs) and I like these better. I was not aware when I bought them that the leg locks are acctually plastic, I was under the impression that everything was metal but be warned the levers are made of plastic. They are high quality plastic and seem plenty strong, so I'm not concerned. Everything else seems to be metal, and it all locks down very well. The center column splits so you do not need to buy a short column to go low. The leg locks are very smooth and secure, it's surprising how little force it takes to lock/unlock them. The bag it comes with is awful, like paper with some black pvc stuff on it, and the first position for the leg angle is a bit too steep. Even still I give these 5 stars because they are such a great deal and they are probably the lightest legs I will comfortably use with my monorail 4x5. Don't believe what everyone says, these legs are not that heavy. They will be great for field work for me! very good deal.

I am not a professional photographer, more like serious part time amateur. I have a Canon S3 and find it is perfect for my level of shooting (also have a Canon T70 with multiple lenses and Panasonic G320 digital video that I use on tripod, but I prefer the S3). Based on internet reviews, I ordered the Slik Pro 700 Dx with the 800 Ball Head. First, the tripod is massive! It is really made for much larger cameras than mine, too heavy to lug around while playing tourist. Having said that, I now do not want to take pictures without it. I am 6'2", and this thing easily rises over my head. It is solid and stable, and well made. Each leg is independently adjustable for height and angle. I can hang on this thing for shooting without worry. Center column locks with a twist ring, which I find to be much better than a geared column. The tripod comes with sponge like grips not shown in the picture that make it very comfortable to use. The round tubes are grooved to prevent twist, which adds to the stability. Solid rubber feet on the ends. Open with camera mounted, it does not feel heavy, and the included travel bag make carrying it easy enough for field trips. Matched with the 800 Ball Head, it makes a great tripod. I only regret having used a cheap tripod for so long before stepping to the real thing.

I don't write many reviews, but this product drove me to the computer. The value received for price paid for these tripod legs is almost unbelievable. I expected good construction because this product is well regarded on Amazon as well as other retailers who sell the product. Even so, the solidness and features of this tripod are way beyond my expectations. Pros: Everything locks down very well, but is not to "tight" to release Saw a review that it gets cold, but there is foam padding to help with this. Three position adjustment on leg angle (in a $90 tripod!) Length of the center column is adjustable (bottom half screws right off) to allow pictures close to the ground. Center column is REVERSIBLE allowing shooting REALLY close to the ground I am 6'3". No stooping! This is the first tripod I've owned that has this much height. Cons: That construction quality "Pro" means a heavy and bulky tripod, meaning this is not an all occasion product. Getting out of the car and shooting - yes. Hiking to the top of a mountain at 4 am - not so much. The measurements are all in the description, but I guarantee this will be larger than you expect. That said, I recommend this product HIGHLY if you are looking for an entry level pro product. This thing has bells and whistles that I would normally look for on tripods in the $200+ range. Until I become convinced that I should trade my car for a carbon fiber tripod, I will deal with a couple of extra pounds and quietly laugh at all of the other shooters that paid WAY to much. Bottom Line -- This is a STEAL. Buy it quick before Slik figures out that it would still be a good deal at a much higher price!

This is a great set of legs. It came in the mail just in time for a wedding I was about to shoot (video), and I was very pleased with it. This was able to support my 4 ft Konova slider with fluid head, camera, light, and mic with no difficulty at all. Very stable. A lot of people reviewing these legs have been saying that they are very heavy. I actually found them to be almost disappointingly light! I was expecting this thing to have the mass and strength of a tank that I could set on the beach to keep my camera safe from crashing tides. But with the legs fully extended, I feel I could probably bend the metal with about 70% of my own force. But I have to say it is a good middle ground for portability and durability. I've been hiking with this tripod for some time now and I've never been too bothered by the weight. One major gripe I had about these legs is that the feat have NO traction! They are buttery smooth and will slip around on any smooth surface. Luckily it was easy enough to get a blow torch and a nail to stipple in my own grooves, which was a substantial aid to its overall stability. I would definitely recommend these legs over anything else at this price point.

My favorite tripod.

I'm very happy with these legs. When I originally bought them, the site I was getting specs from (B&H) had them listed as having a 22lb maximum payload, which I later found out was incorrect. When I received my legs in the mail, I was shocked to see that the manual said they had a maximum payload of 5kg, which is only 11lbs. I contacted B&H about the error and they changed the specs to 15lbs, which is also what Slik's website said. Huh?! I contacted THK (Slik's parent company) to verify the maximum payload once and for all, and they said that the latest numbers from Japan rate them at 18lbs and that the instruction manual was wrong. Now that's more like it. The legs are extremely sturdy even at their highest. Some may see it as a con that these legs weigh a whopping 7lbs, but I happen to think that's a good thing. They're definitely not suited for travel, but once you set it up, it's not going anywhere. They also have a very professional look and come with a decent nylon carrying case (with extra room for the head you pair it with). I bought a Giottos MH-1301 ball head to go with it (20lb payload), and the pair compliment each other very well. The center column is in two pieces and is reversible so you can get your camera right at ground level, giving it a full range of height all the way up to 70.1" (plus whatever extra your head gives you). Overall, I couldn't be happier. Total cost was right at $200, and I feel like I'm using a $400+ tripod. I did a TON of research on tripods and heads before making my purchases, and I feel I found the best balance of payload, price, and features.

I never write reviews - but this tripod deserves a 5-star review! This is a great, sturdy, and LIGHT tripod - perfect for real estate photoshoots. Perfect! I HIGHLY reocmmend this tripod. You will be very happy with your purchase as it is WELL worth the money!
