perfect for keeping mold from growing inside a parked car
March2023 update: Replaced failed power adapter with 12-volt laptop charger ($1 at second hand store). Cut off the round laptop connector and spliced in the 2-pin plug which came with the dehumidifier. Working fine again. The laptop charger runs cooler (thus more efficiently) than the original adapter. Hottest spot on ‘brick’ is about 22 F above ambient temp (see photo).Feb2023 Update: After about 2 yrs + 4 months of use, the AC-to-DC adapter failed. Dehumidifier won't turn on, transformer case does not heat up. When operating, the black adapter housing would heat up considerably, so some electrical component inside the adapter probably failed thermally. Replacement adapter with 2-prong plug costs over $30! Will buy a cheap adapter with barrel plug and then swap the plugs. Also, when dehumidifier turns on, it makes an annoying howling noise (fan bearing?) for a few minutes before settling down. But for the price, I will stick with 4 stars.Sep 2020 I purchased the Vremi 1-pint dehumidifier pictured above on Amazon. Still good after running continuously about 11 months. The device is well made and seems to be well designed, although I haven't had any reason to open it up. I am amazed that a device like this could be manufactured and sold for only $20! (As I write this, I see that the price has ballooned to about $45.) It works well for my intended purpose of preventing mold from growing inside my parked car in humid Puerto Rico, which happened when my car sat for a long time during the pandemic. The tank fills up after about a week in the humid season, after about a month in the dry season. My main complaint, and why I gave it only 4 stars, is that the unit does not restart after a power outage, which occurs at least once a week where I live. So I purchased a small UPS (cost 3x what the Vremi cost!) to keep it running around the clock. Keep in mind that this unit is not efficient, (Energy Star rated dehumidifiers are 5 to 10 times more efficient in terms of liters/kw-hr) but it does well at drying the inside of our car. I set it to 60% RH, which is adequate for preventing mold. The built-in RH sensor agrees fairly well with my high-quality hygrometer. Fan does make a bit of noise, I wouldn't want to sleep next to it. In a pinch, it can be powered directly from the car battery (draws 37 watts) via the cigarette lighter socket with the right cable, although it would drain the battery after a couple of days.

It works well, works fast and then goes to sleep until it’s needed again!
Update 1 year later! Still running doing it’s job with zero problems! I bought 2 of these last year in case 1 sucked! Still haven’t opened the second one.... it’s located in the vanity! A small room next to my enclosed shower area! Fills its water container about once a week! well worth the $25!Update- been running for about 2 months now! Still works as described below! Well worth the $19.99 I paid at Xmas time! Really made a difference in the humidity level of the master shower and powder room! This is exactly what I was expecting and more! I read a few reviews that said the fan fails on these systems quickly! Which is technically a non user replaceable part! I can’t speak for that since I’ve only been running this thing a few days now!I will tell you for sure, this thing works well, very very well! I have a master bath that no matter how many cf per minute exhaust fan I install. It stays humid for hours after a shower! I figured I would give this a try to solve this problem! It works, fast, well and Quietly! When I first installed this box on the counter bathroom it showed humidity was around 80% 4 hours after the last shower! About an hour, if that, ( I wasn’t paying that close of attention ) of running this box, the humidity had dropped to 50% and the machine had shut off at the humidity level i set it at!Moral of the story, it works and works well! And the best part is it doesn’t run all day and all night! It randomly checks the humidity level in the room and turns on when needed! Turns off when pre set % is reached!Keep in mind this thing won’t dehumidify a living room, or any large room! My bathroom is about 400sq feet, so this is perfect! This little box far exceeded my expectations!

Hygrometer is way off, not impressed so far
Update: returned it. The device is ineffective. Don't waste your time on this machine as it's not even good for a small apartment bathroom.———————————————————The device is small, easy to use and it doesn't take up too much space. The design is nice, it's not ugly. That's all the good I can say for it so far. Now the bad:The hygrometer (the sensor that measures humidity) is off by at least 10%. I've verified that with an accurite hygrometer and the one on my ecobee. It's 100% off. What that means is when you go to set your desired humidity level, you have to raise it by 10%-15% otherwise it will never turn off.Now this machine doesn't turn on or off unless the humidity is above or below your set humidity level by 5%. It's a feature meant to prolong the life of the machine. What that means is if you want your room at 50% you need to set it at 55. But now that we know the machine is off by at least 10% — that means you need to set it at 65.I've noticed other reviewers had an issue with the machine always running. This is most likely their issue. If the humidity in your home is 58% and the machine reads 68%, when the machine hits 60% your home will actually be at 50%. However the machine will still run because it's hygrometer is off and the difference was never factored into their RH setting. From what I've read, once you start getting to 50% RH the effectiveness of a dehumidifier decreases because there's less moisture in the air to withdraw. With that all that in mind, it means the machine will run constantly.I've also noticed that it's ability to remove moisture from the air is subpar. I put it in my small apartment bathroom and 10hrs later the machine's humidistat reading hasn't lowered 1%. So...I'll give it more time but so far I'm not impressed.

Surprisingly efficient
I live in a tiny house on wheels, in the very rainy PNW, keeping to myself during Covid. So, mold became an issue, because I was always home. Always. This took the humidity from 78% to 45% in a matter of hours, and kept it there all winter. That's fantastic.I had to empty it about once a week.I'd buy it again.
